For the simple reason that a car this powerful (even in regular flavors) is best managed as an M xDrive vehicle than an RWD one.

From my own experiences pushing my own regular G82 to the limit on closed courses in all modes, the non-AWD modes are fun but difficult to finesse (even with professional instruction), and 99%+ of the time only worsen the safety envelope for most G8X owners.

So my prediction is that most G8X wrecks on public roads will be cars with:
- the wrong tires for the weather (summer tires in winter mostly, some in cold wet weather).
- RWD cars or AWD cars driven in 2WD mode.
- AWD cars on a 10-stage traction control setting less than 8.

Safe, trained drivers in RWD with the right tires > very unsafe drivers in AWD. My notes were from a statistical standpoint. And untrained but decent drivers in AWD can push a lot harder safely than what even (M Driving School-) trained RWD drivers can achieve with some effort and theater (real world side-by-side observations).

Yea definitely the airbag. Seen it happen on multiple BMWs. It deploys even when no passenger is there and always causes some type of damage to the front windshield.

The windshield will often break when the airbags blow.

Anything can be fixed. Doesn’t mean it’s not a write off. This is a write off. If it’ll be fixed and sold somewhere else is for anyone to speculate.

Almost afraid to admit this but.. after much experimentation and discovery, I now almost always leave all nannies on in my F80 CS when on street. Saves on tire wear too.

Prediction is good aside from your note about the TC at 8 or less.
I think TC needs to be quite low to be a main cause of crashes. Setting it at 8 can barely get slip at all. I started at 7 and lowered it over a couple of days until I liked the feel. Only started to like it around 4. Settled on 3. Still feels "safe".

Who knows what actually happened

AWD/RWD doesn’t matter, if you’re acting the jack ass you’ll get bitten either way (not saying that’s what happened here)

This is very reminiscent of the E46 M3 CSL when it first came out.

That was more due to tires and weather but still.

Ya'll gotta start driving the collector cars like an old dude with a Vette and build sheet laminated in the damn car.

What security situation?

These cars are targeted by criminal way way less here than they are in Europe.

Here they want trucks and VW Polos.
Higher end cars are too easy to trace.

The biggest problem here with these cars is its extremely difficult to get any track time with them, so most are raced on the public roads.

I agree. For the totaled value of the car, that damage is fully repairable. Insurance companies are not quick to total expensive cars.
