It might!! I came in from the other end as per the BMW instruction. Give it a go or follow my method but release the two clips as done in the video. Its worth a try and let me know how it goes.

Check with you, does your model come with ambient lighting? Do you need to recode after installing the dashboard trim for the ambient lighting?

I can confirm that I have ambient lighting and that the central trim requires no coding. Did you manage to get the gear trim off in the end and how did you do it?

I am still unable to get the trim off. Unable to unhook the top part.

I just had mine installed today and have found out that half of the ambient lighting strip is weaker illuminated than the other half. Told the dealer, they removed it to check the fiber or any bad contacts, but everything turned out ok. However, half of my ambient lighting strip is still weaker than the other half and it’s driving me crazy. The dealer said they took photos and will write BMW, but if you could, could you also attach photos of your dashboard with the ambient lighting on to see if it’s a common situation?

Thanks

What's going on with your AC vent? It doesn't look like they installed it properly.

Looking at it now and other photos of the original, yeah I see it. Anyway, I’m either looking to have a new part installed to repair that shitty ambient half-lighting or the original back. I’ll ride their asses about the ac vent too, thanks for noticing

It could be why your ambient light strip looks like that (if they didn't install the trim piece on that side properly it could be block a little bit of the led strip making it look more dim).

Most definitely not, as it’s only there on the a/c vent that’s sticking out a bit, not lowered. It’s definitely a light problem. Anyway, it was installed properly in the beginning and when I noticed the problem, I went back to the dealer in a hurry, but it was the end of the schedule, they tested it, didn’t see a fault in the wiring, and what they did was probably hurry to install it back to get home quicker and made a mess of the vent part. But the problem was definitely there before that “bad reinstall”. Anyway, still nice catch and first thing on Monday, I’ll be giving them a call.

Thanks a bunch. I’ll show them your photos and try and coerce them to order a new part. It doesn’t make any sense that the original was perfect and now the M-Performance trim has this ambient light issue. I mean it’s supposed to be an improvement, not a downgrade...

Please let me know if they offer any valuable info in the matter. I’m not in the UK, but I’d guess that my dealer could see it as a precedent if your guys manage to solve the problem. Thanks

I had a call from my local BMW dealer yesterday and they have asked me to take my car in. They have acknowledged that the photo's indicate a problem and will do whatever is required to fix it including replacing the trim under warranty

Apparently, my dealer ordered one already since I showed them the problem as well. Anyway, it’s weird that 2 separate parts have the same issue and I don’t recall any original trims of any G20s having that same problem...I’m hoping it’s not gonna be a thing related to the build process and all M trims being like this. If that’s gonna be the case I’m gonna switch back to the default hexagon stuff...shame.

I have a tiny bright spot too like Xsapper has. But it’s just that one spot. The rest of it has the same brightness.
