Is it possible to fit a bicycle in the G20's trunk with the rear seats down?
Looking to buy a bike for commuting or local exercise.
Sometimes I may want to drive to a different location and not to into bike racks and don't want it on my car. Has anybody actually fit a bike in their trunk with the rear seats down comfortably and would you recommend it ? Thanks |

Have a road bike in a small size and can fit in easily with front wheel on in the G20. In my previous F30, front wheel had to come off! So now much more convenient!

It will eventually ruin and tear up the interior. Grease and little particles fall off, little tears in the interior, nicks, etc., it adds up over time. IME, you need something at least as large as a 4-GC to properly protect and pad the interior when you put it in, but even then it's only done like that in a pinch. Hitch rack and barring that, roof racks. I get the intermittent use thing, but as soon as a receiver becomes available (like through execuhitch) that would be what I'd get. For sure they have them in Yurp already, although it's their funny ball-style.

i'm debating buying a bike and was curious about this. I'm guessing fitting a bike in the car with the spare tire in the trunk is probably gonna be impossible.
Do you guys who have bikes generally get like a rear hitch rack or a roof one? Last edited by hans007; 06-30-2020 at 01:26 AM.. |

Yeah. In my experience, it's just not possible to stay that careful forever. I've been there and you can do it for a little while, but over time, it's not practical.

I have a Large MTB in my car more or less permanently as I on weekly basis go the forest to bike. With the front wheel off and saddle down there is no issue at all and it fits very easily. I use a plastic cover to ensure grease does not cause damage. Have been doing this for 6 months now and the truck still looks spotless

Yes, it will fit. I always do this in my 2011 E92, it's the only way I transport my bike. I had a G20 loaner for a day the the trunk is larger than my 335I, I have a 56cm bike with long legs (high saddle), I do have to take off the front tire and slide out the seatpost, takes me about 2-3 minutes to get it in there. Far easier than installing my roof rack. I have a piece of tape on my seat post so I know exactly where to position the seat post back in. I always place it in there, chainring/chain side up.

As others have stated, I've had my bike in the back on a couple of occasions!
I use a large blanket to cover the boot/back of the seat, front wheel off and in it goes, no issue... I've even had it in the back with only dropping 60 split and leaving the one side up with my daughters car seat...

The volume was bigger on the F30 too, but the F36 was far easier to manage, just a million times easier to put something in the back with the entire hatch out of the way. Do it 100 times and you're going to be banging into stuff far more often with a "trunk".

Can confirm I have done it on an XL sized bike by taking the front tire off.

I guess if it's every now and then, like me, It's not too bad, but daily, when it's miserable and raining, it might be a bit more more of a chore!

I'm starting to look into a hitch for a hitch rack but my preliminary research seems to indicate a hitch is a bit of a pain on the G20's. If anyone knows better I'd be happy to be wrong. |
