Exclamation Replica MPerformance rear diffuser gloss black w/color matched white center

So I ordered from IKON the Mperformance rear diffuser in gloss black. I then had the center section painted BMW 300 white to match my car. I was inspired by some of the leaked rear diffuser pics that have been shared of the upcoming M3.

I'm not sure if I'm going to like it or not - but it's always so easy to go back to black - so I figured why not try.

I'll have it on the car in a couple days but for now...

Definitely different but going on these shots, it's not for me.
Would still like to see what it looks like in the car to see if it changes my mind.

Yeah I'm in much the same boat - not sure if I'm going to like or not - nice thing is with the MPerformance (oem or rep) diffuser the center section is separate so it makes changing things quite easy. I know I like gloss black - we'll see if I like this :-)

It's cool that you're giving it a shot & taking the chance. Never know until you try... Keep us posted on the outcome

Out of curiosity, does IKON sell this with a carbon fiber center section? ...Or perhaps a different vendor does? All the (non-OEM) diffusers I've seen for an M340i have painted the center section. Any guidance is appreciated!

Yes having it separate does make it so much easier to change out.

I applaud you though for giving this a try.

I also think it’s very cool the OP is trying this. I predict it’ll look good.

Because the center section can come out, you could easily have it wrapped or hydrodipped a CF pattern. I’m not a big fan of faux CF but it’s an option that is available, cheaper, and might look good for that particular part.

here are the pics. Don't love it 100% but also don't hate it - going to live with it for a while (knowing gloss black is only a day away) and see where I settle.

I do like that it is something different - and I am tired of looking at all gloss black rear diffusers on my cars- so maybe this will work for me in time. Think I need to do the tips in black (gloss black emblem is on its' way from IND).

That said - for reference here you go :-)

Couple thoughts from the install
  • fit is darn near perfect - super impressed - I recommend
  • install is about 10 mins - took me longer because I wasn't quite sure what I needed to remove - so removed more screws than necessary
  • took some pics that I'll share
  • you only need to remove four 10mm bolts and then the rest are clips that simply pop out when you pull on the diffuser
  • I removed the exhaust finishers because I thought it was necessary - you don't but now I know they are only secured by two simple 10mm bolts (so that's good to know)
  • pro tip - the center section comes with an extra long tab (see pics) I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't fit - but then it dawned on me the extended tabs are for a 330 and for an M340 you need to cut the tab at the trim line (see pic). Of course there were no install instructions that mentioned this :-)
Opinion at the end of the day is that this is a great part! What you decide to do with the center section is up to you but fit and finish is awesome (at least on the one I received)

I like it. It looks different compared to the all black look everyone (including me) loves. But hey. Since it’s colour matched, it works. Thumbs up from me.

I like it too, it's different, and may not be to everyone's taste, but another thumbs up from me
Not that I'll do it to mine, as I won't be doing anything to my beautiful M Performance Carbon Diffuser

I think it looks great! The inspiration from the G80 M3 is good and when it rolls out, your diffuser will look like it came that way from the factory. I think the body color matching creates more visual interest in the backend. I do agree that gloss black exhaust finishers would look tidier.

Nice work and thanks for being a trailblazer!

It looks great, and nice to see something different.
Anyone know of a reseller of Ikon Motorsports diffusers in Europe? They seem really unique compared to the typical ebay listings.

Here is their listing on eBay - perhaps they ship outside of the US? Hope this helps

These^.
It did turn out better than I expected and I reckon it would look even better for someone with SO or TB colour car and I say again well done for coming up with the idea and having the brass to do it

exhaust finishers/tips (whatever they are called) are now in being powder coated gloss black - I'll have them back in a day or two and will post updated photos for anyone that is interested.
