M340i mirror and speaker issues
Hey guys, just picked up a 2020 M340i about a month ago. This is my third B58 powered vehicle, and wow, what a car.
Unfortunately, I‘m already facing some of the horror stories I heard about the M340's. - After a wash the other day, I noticed one of my mirrors worked while the other did absolutely nothing. (Still broken) - On top of that, I noticed an insane rattle coming from my top speaker located on the dash. Both common issues from what my service advisor tells me at my dealer. But, what scares me is how they're gonna fix them. Apparently, BMW hasn't issued a service bulletin for the mirror issue, so the dealer just has to throw parts at it. And it's a gamble whether it'll actually get fixed or not. If anyone has any fixes or has encountered these issues please let me know. |

Honestly, these are minor issues.
We're not talking engine or tranny problems that other BMWs have had. No suspension recalls. The model remains a solid one. What these are, so far, are just above fit and finish issues that can easily be remedied if properly handled by a reputable dealer.

i hardly consider these "horror stories". I've had my car for 4.5 months now, and haven't really seen anything go wrong. Only have barely 2000 miles on it, but thus far its been pretty solid.

I can also vouch for mine- almost 4K miles in 5 months and all has been well.
In another section I posted a minor concern about the tranny feeling nannied a bit in hard up shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear but that's literally the only thing I can think of. Had to get my sunroof rattle fixed but dealer took care of that ASAP

My 2020 M340i also needed the driver side mirror replaced. I wash the car frequently since I don't garage the vehicle. The water got into the electronics such that the mirror would not move, would not defrost, nor would it fold in. Since it was under warranty, I don't know the cost but I would have to imagine that it would have been a $1500 repair easy out of warranty. Then the passenger side laser headlight filled with water. Each laser headlight alone is several thousand, not including labor.
So it has had at least $6,000 to $7,000 in repairs in the first year. But other than these issues, car has been flawless. I love driving it. And coming from a 2007 335i, I am used to numerous repairs. Part of the joy of a BMW, you get a loaner car a shit ton of times for the all the warranty work. The 335i is now my son's, it had both turbo's replaced under warranty, three window regulators, both driver and passenger side mirrors replaced, electric water pump, all six of the injectors, the stereo amplifier and the display/headset, the HPFG gasket, and of course the high-pressure fuel pump replaced under warranty. But since the warranty ended, I have only had to do the usual replacing of seals: oil pan, HPFG, and valve cover (twice). Oh, and another six injectors plus 4 more (I refuse to replace the whole bank when they run $200 each). But I did them myself so just $2000 or so for all the injectors. BMW should give me an award for sticking with such shoddy quality but I don't like Japanese cars, they have no soul. The 335i has 153,000 on it now, runs like new. But damn it has had problems. Sure hope my M340i will surprise me by holding up. |
