Big update coming soon with the Android Auto update and the new cloud based navigation maps and looks like should be for all G20/21 hopefully. Pity the iPhone unlocking doesn't look like it will happen for existing cars.

According to this article you can buy HBA and adaptive cruise control as stand almonds? I didn’t think this was possible?

Looks like a good update. Shame about the iPhone but not sure how much I'd use it in practice. I've got the digital key card anyway when I don't want the bulky keys.

I wonder if it's just because they don't want thousands of owners turning up to get their iPhone digitial key enabled when iOS 14 drops?

You can buy HBA now but for my Nov 2019 M340 it isn't available to buy.

I've read from my BMW dealer info that cars built from July 2020 will come with a blank button that can be programmed for HBA once downloaded. So going forward you don't need to buy the laser light option to enable HBA.

Not sure about adaptive cruise - surely this needs the driving assistant pro package anyway?

Agreed, you would need the radar in the lower grill surely? Also the distance control buttons up/down would be missing from the steering wheel so doesn’t make sense.

Big question though - WHEN is it rolling out, I want the update now

I don’t like the way this is going! When you buy a car with the spec you want, you can negotiate to get a discount you’re happy with.

Once this becomes a subscription, the price will be the price.

I can’t see it personally, there will always be discounts to be had. Also by the sounds of it, the price for adding a service sounds like it would be cheaper to buy from factory new, and that’s assuming your car can take the upgrade. See what you mean, but I think we are years away! They need to be building cars fully loaded but not activated to be able to sell these add-ons, then no doubt someone will code it

The content of this video implies that after the July Update for Android Auto etc, Apple CarKey will work on Vehicles built before July 2020 as long as they have the hardware to support it (i.e. Digital Key Card and Comfort Access).

All this is subject to BMW getting their act together. If they want to roll this out OTA, then they would need to sort out the current software updates than you cannot get unless you go to the dealer.

Unless it's a baselining exercise too eg v7.1 rather than 7.02

As this is a pretty major change to how the maps work I would expect that too Blaz so hopefully they will want all the cars updated reasonably quickly. Unless they are worried about load on the update or map servers?

On this occasion I seem to have been fortunate. My G21 340dx had been scheduled for delivery in May but was put back because of Covid.

Build started yesterday, 14 July with delivery now expected 10 August.

From what I’ve read it seems to be 11/2019.xx that is being done OTA at present. Is that what you got?

I got 11.2019.70 yesterday.

I was convinced OTA updates didn’t work on mine as I’d never had one before since owning in Oct 2019. Have previously taken it into the dealer for 2 prev. updates.

A conversation with the master technician at the dealership has informed me the OTA updates HAVE been working all along. The confusion comes in because BMW release the OTA versions at a delayed rate compared to the actual latest version that’s available.

I know there’s a 3.2020.xx out there, but the latest OTA update released is the one yesterday (15/7) - 11.2019.70, which is the one I and others got. Previously I was on 11.2019.30 before yesterday.

Not sure what the reasoning is for releasing the OTAs at a delayed/staggered rate to the actual latest version available.

So if you keep taking your car in for updates (amongst other excuses to get it cleaned!), then chances are you won’t be due any OTA updates until they catch up to the version you’ve got from the dealer.

I’ve not noticed anything ground breakingly different from 11.2019.30 to .70 - oh the electric driving in low emissions cities option is there, don’t think that was there before. Looks a bit of a mess to be honest, a jumbled list of international cities of which there's London and Birmingham for the U.K. other than that, not noticed anything else (though happy to be corrected if this feature was always there!)

So I took my car in for some service work.

They updated to 07.2020.25

Not had a chance to fully explore but pops are still there (M340i) when in sport plus mode.

Adaptive suspension feels a little more sorted

Minor graphic changes and improvement in quality.

I'll report back if I see anything major.

So all this BMW OTA update is a load of nonsense then? Not much different to what I’m reading elsewhere, people saying they’ve had to take their cars in to get upgraded.

Will call tomorrow to book mine in. I want the Android Auto more than anything else.
