Charger recommendations for a 330e
Hi all, just getting some work done including electrics before we move house and looking to get a charger installed. Can't be waiting for 10hrs to fully charge on a 3pin!
Was chatting to a guy who had a tethered Pod Point 7kW installed in Feb and paid £360. Price now is £560 so they have shot up in 5 months. Guessing it's better to get a 7kW for future charging on next car etc as we don't plan to move again any time soon. What is everyone using and anything to avoid or watch for? Thanks in advance.

Mine came with a Type 2 charger as well so think I'd get tethered for home then can leave the other one in the boot if I need to charge whilst out 👍🏼

I read somewhere that if you want to climatise the vehicle at the same time as charging or at least to stop the charge reducing when climatising...getting a higher output wall charger will be needed. So 7kw at least would be ideal.

I have only ever used an outside plug at home over 3 years. You can change the rate of charge from iDrive. I have it on maximum. I wouldn't say anything additional was required for a PHEV.

Guess that works ok for overnight but I'd quite like the ability to charge fully in 3-4 hours. The guy I know with a PodPoint say if its on 50% it will fully charge in around an hour as well. I want to get the most use out of the electric part of the car whenever possible.

How does that work, I plug mine in and it normally around 10 hrs at least to fully charge from nothing. Do I need a special extension or something?!

Jim_330e and Bmwnewbie2 The prices you have put in your posts, is that before or after the govt grant?
Ive been looking on Ebay and you can pick up a used podpoint or chargemaster for ~200 ish and the 6mm armoured cable isnt mega expensive, I might do the bulk of the install myself and get a sparky in to do the final connection in the CU, ive got plenty of spare breakers. |
