that render is pretty accurate EXCEPT for the rear roof it looks like. if you look at the spy pics the roof is too short and the "hips" are a bit too high.

so the render i think is artificially coupe like. I still think with a more normal roof it will still look great though. getting excited for 18 months from now when im in the market again

There is no prominent characterline. Rear lights are thinner and smaller.

I will give them the front facia though.

The new tail light-style are so terrible. And why are they standing out from the body? Not looking good at all. The rest looks promising tough (except of the mechanical steering column om the new BMWs).

Like most manufacturers, they are moving towards an overall more stylized / essentialized design that increasingly resembles the ideal designer sketch that is only defined by a few main broad pencil/brush strokes when viewed from a distance, and towards increasingly refined micro-details once you zoom in. So in regards to the general tail light signature, they are ditching the traditional 2-3 thin L-shape red lines for one single thicker L-shape line, and spreading it to the entire lineup as we can tell from spyshots of most upcoming models. The 3D sticking out effect emphasizes the impression that the L-shapes are literally like paint strokes across a flat canvas. When we zoom in though I'm sure there will be intricate detailing within the tail lamp. At least that's how I perceive this trend.

These headlights from peugeot don't fit the car, but manufacturers can't resist the notch.

So it'll be a near-carbon copy of the 5, which is a copy of the 7?
I mean... could we get *a little* more differentiation?

I'm hoping the standard/non M Sport bumper ends up looking like this. Looks much better than the current 3/4/5 bumpers.

I think all the other renderings here are inaccurate next to this.

That's been a BMW thing for decades.
BMW is not Hyundai or Ford or Chevy.

The German auto makers like to have a design family where the siblings resemble each other and the parents, and the parents resemble the grandparents.

Porsche has been a success by building variations of the 1960's 911s all the way to now in the 21st century.

Aside from the Bangle era BMW has always had the "same sausage different lengths" design philosophy.

I'd say that right now, Mercedes is the worst offender and it has made the E-class look visually anonymous. Even Audi has more product differentiation.

The 5 is not a copy of the 7. Can't stand when people say this. They look very different. Sure, the 3,5, and 7 will all share some similarities in aesthetics, but at least it's not as bad as Mercedes, where the C, E, and S are damn near identical but just different size versions

which sucks beacuse the rear is gorgeous.
