Will the G82 M4 GTS also switch to a ZF AT?

With all this talk about DCT going away for the next generation M3/M4.. I wonder if the next GTS will be a ZF transmission

I think the ZF 8 spd gearbox will be the only non-manual option for the m3/4, just like it is in the f90 m5.

IMO, the M5 went 8AT due to two main reasons: AWD and torque increase beyond the current DCT capability.

I am still hoping that they will stick with the DCT on the G8X M3/4. I think it is highly dependent if the G8X goes AWD. The current DCT will more than likely still be handle the torque of the S58, so if the G8X stays RWD only, an evolution of the current DCT would still work perfectly fine.

I'm not optimistic, unfortunately. BMW pitched the CS right into the same market pool and it sank like a cinder block. And the dealers all knew it would struggle - little interest in preorders, heavy discounts very early on. My take on this is that BMW just has very little demand (respect?) from that segment right now. And that segment will shrink now that money isn't practically free anymore

And I feel they deserve it, honestly. It feels that they don't get it. Just yesterday, their chief of development was quoted saying that people should stfu, we're going to make cars even bigger, more powerful and more disconnected. Your slushbox-in-a-track car scenario would absolutely suck, but doesn't it say something that you thought of it, and I'm sitting here thinking that they just might do that?

Hate to say it BMW lost their way a few years ago ......too many M products, and the M brand has been diluted. It’s a shame ......look how many M5’s are sitting for sale which I’ve never seen before.

Do people still buy big fast land Yachts?

The F8x is at the end of what I can tolerate size wise.

Agree with you regarding BMW. Everything has an ///M badge on it nowadays.

Not only has BMW jacked up the M brand, but even the normal cars. I picked up a 14 320i for a DD. What a pile of garbage. The steering is a joke, the cheap plastics are so friggin cheap they creak and crack over bumps, the engine sounds like crap. You can tell they used cheap on all parts - window glass is so thin you can feel it creak as it rolls up, A/C doesnt work when its cold, dash creaks like crazy. A 3 series used to have some pride in it, now its honestly a rental car grade vehicle. Matter of fact, I much preferred a 300S rental I had last week over my 320i. Better steering feel, better suspension, and overall better quality. BMW is resting on their laurels of previous platform success. My 01 330i is a better car in every way than this 320i pile of junk, its not worthy of a BMW badge. Well, nowadays it is, but not in the previous days.

Back on the GTS thread: you cannot compare a 4 series to a 911 platform. Let alone the engines, the N/A 6 is in a different league in terms of visceral driving experience. If BMW would have put an N/A into the GTS that would have gotten a little interest from me.

Glad to see guys able to pick up the GTS at these sub 100k prices. Likely good value, as these cars shouldn't depreciate too mjch lower from here.

Agree with you. I've had Chargers and Camaros for rentals recently and they are so much more fun to drive than most BMWs I've driven lately. Unfortunately, they are a bit boring and predictable.

It was the exact same with the F10 M5. I remember when I ordered my first M4 back in 2014, my dealer was offering me an M5 that was sitting in their showroom for less money than the M4 I ordered. I passed since the M5 is too big and heavy for my needs.

It is the same with MB. I was with my dad this week to help him with the purchase of a new car (he's been with MB for over 40 years). I found it laughable how many AMG logos were put on almost every car in the showroom. The C400 has become the AMG C43 in the same way we now have the M340i. I actually feel MB is worse in whoring out the AMG label: I saw AMG floor mats in a base C300 .

The problem is all three German manufacturers perpetuate this ridiculousness to enhance sales.

Every Joe Shmoo and soccer mom wants an AMG, ///M, or Audi S whatever

^This, if you are going to go the appliance route, you may as well buy a loaded Accord or Camry for less. Nicer and more options for DD.

The 320 other than the RWD/MT sport version is for people who want a BMW badge on the cheap. Kudos to BMW for tapping into the market because I see them everywhere.

You realize they have had 320s, 318s and 316s in the past, right? This is nothing new.

I've had 320i loaners and they really do suck. As someone else posted the car just exudes cheap. BMWs of yore were still BMWs at heart. Not so much anymore. As far as I'm concerned the only way to get a "true" BMW at this point is get an ///M.

The wife's 340i lease is up soon and I honestly don't know what to get her next. It won't be a 3 series.

I wouldn’t say the 0-60 in 4.1 seconds is lifeless for a m2 I’ve driven the m2 also but on the street and it seemed pretty fast for what it was I would drive it but it’s no where near a 320i.
