Should I add this Wheel and Tire protection?

I’m sure that this has been discussed a few times but I wanted to get your opinion on my situation. I’m picking up my M340 and my dealer is offering the following Wheel and Tire protection:

“DYNAMIC MAX Tire & Wheel Protection (3yrs) = $1,999 + Tax

Unlimited Tire Replacements for your 19" Run Flat Tires (as they can't be repaired and Expensive to replace) due to bubbles, flats, punctures, etc... $0 deductible

Unlimited Rim Repair or Replacements for your 19”M Wheels if they are bent, cracked, damaged due to road hazards (potholes, etc)... $0 deductible

BONUS = 4 - Cosmetic Repairs (due to curb rash)... $0 deductible”

This will be my 3rd leased BMW and for the other two cars I’ve had to fully replace 2 RFT and I repaired / plugged 2 others. But those were on 18” wheels. Now that my new M340 will have 19” Jet Black 792Ms with RFTs and I live in New York City (potholes everywhere) I’m wondering if it makes sense to get protection on the wheels and tires.

What do you guys think? I also know that this plan is marked up, but what do you think is a fair price that I negotiate for if I decide to get it?

I am also in NYC (Queens) and have 1200 miles on my M340 with 791M runflats. I did not take any of these extra packages. However, I tore a 3 inch gap in the front left tire after 200 miles while changing lanes on the LIE ( big pothole at the interface between lanes), and it cost me 1/3 of the cost of the tire package for the new tire and wheel alignment (I don't know if the tire package covers wheel alignment checks, but when you smack through a 4 inch deep pothole on at expressway speed, it's probably a good idea to get one).

Upside was, the run flats let me drive to the nearby BMW dealership who gave me a loaner and I carried on my day trip out to the Hamptons. They also had never seen an M340i at that dealership so I had half the dealership admiring the car!

No issues since then though, so I think it was just a pothole from hell...but I did that journey for 5 yrs in an M235i with non runflats and never had such issues with a pothole.

Check the fine print about the wheel coverage. I had two bent rims but they would not cover them because the tires would still hold air… Even though the bends caused vibrations at speed. But this sounds like a different policy. I bought mine back in 2016 for about $1200 and it has a $50 deductible per in incident. Each replaced tire costs about $360 parts and labor. I had a lot of flats (I think 5 or 6) over 3 years so even without my wheels being covered it was worth it for me.

No way I would buy this. Put aside $2000 on your own and I bet you don't use half of it over 3 years.

Nope. It is $45 a tire or so through tire shops for insurance and BMW wheels are pretty strong and the likelihood of them bending bad enough for bmw to repair is low. Curb rash can be fixed for a moderate price too for most wheels

Get it. You will definitely need it. I'm in New York as well and already went through 7 tires on my F80. Happy I purchased the wheel and tire insurance.

$1800. Well worth it, trust me. My M340i is arriving next week and yes I will definitely purchase it again. Even it they charge me $2000. NYC streets not friendly at all.

You can just go to Discount Tire and purchase their road hazard insurance for friction of the cost.

I have never in my life went through a single tire yet alone 7 of them.

Sounds like you guys need 4X4s to drive on NY roads.

I think you should come visit NYC to understand. By the way does discount tire warranty covers your BMW wheels as well as the cost to mount and balance?

I used to live in SOHO so I know the city pretty well.

Discounts' warranty only covers the tires.

Another good option is to buy smaller diameter new oem take offs and save the rims and tires that the car came with.

I bought a set for my F10 for around $800 and returning the car with brand new set of wheels and tires.

But then again, if you guys are going through that many wheels & tires, I would be driving a SUV or crossover under those conditions.
