Phone mount advice?

I’m not sure if other people mount their phones since CarPlay is available, and iDrive is supposedly really good (my M340 will be here in mid June).

In the meantime, I was looking into ProClipUSA’s mounts. I’ve been using them for my last few cars and have been happy with them. But it seems for the G20, their mount might interfere with some buttons.

Thoughts or feedback if anyone has used them?

I’ve used pro clips for years, they are great. However with car play you really don’t need them. If you don’t have wireless changing then plug it in the armrest storage box.

Hahaha, this will be my first car with car play.
Unfortunately, my build does not include Wireless charging, and it’s too late to add it
The current 2016 340 was a month before CarPlay was introduced.
I’m just really used to Waze for traffic and cop alerts, and tend to use it to supplement in-car navigation.

You can use Waze full screen on your Idrive screen via Carplay

I think you will use it much MUCH more once you get started. Anyways, even without wireless you still will have no need for mount like we use to. CP really is a game changer.

I have one of the proclip units in the mail to try now.
It’s in a similar place as my old GTI, so I don’t think it will bother me that it makes those couple of buttons harder to reach.

I’m sure CarPlay works fine, but my primary phone is a Pixel so it does me no good!

Now if the rumors of android auto coming are true, I may not need it for long.

ProClip Mount Photos

Sure! I'm really happy with it overall. Install only takes 30 seconds, although you do need to wait a day after adding the Scosche magic mount for the adhesive to set up.

Here it is with a Pixel 2XL mounted using a Scosche Magic Mount Pro magnetic mount.

Here's the mount itself with nothing attached.

And here is a (really crappy) closeup of the mount itself. It partially obscures the AC buttons on the right, but I don't use those often so not a loss to me.

Since I only use Google Maps and Waze for their real-time-traffic info, and police detection features, I find BMW navigation useless. That's why

I put a lot of thought into finding a good position for my phone. I wanted to put the phone it my line of sight, but wanted to avoid using ugly mounts that would make the dashboard look ugly while the phone is unmounted.

In the end I decided to use magnetic holder Scoche MagicMount Surface that I positioned left from the central display.

I'm very happy with the results. Phone sticks firmly to the magnetic holder, and it's positioned exactly where I want it: within a comfortable hand reach, and directly in the line of sight, but without obstructing my view of the road.

This position works better with the 8.8" central display since there is more space around the display. Bigger, 10" display has around half of inch less horizontal space for the magnetic holder, so phone can slightly cover the left edge of the screen.

Guys,

Awaiting delivery of my G20 within two weeks. Looking for a proper mounting solution as well. Used the Dashmount in previous F30 and F20 (see images) which is not available for G20 (yet?).

Don’t like the vent positioned version Brodit came up with. Any recommendations?

I used ProClip in my F30 I just received the ProClip for my G20 M340. I have used ProClip in MB as well you can't beat ProClip.

Now if only the car would show up!

Good Luck!

I have ordered both the Kuda Console as well as the Brodit Proclip and tried both today in my new G20.

The Brodit uses the vent and covers a part of the iDrive screen and is positioned in the middle. That just won't do for me.

The Kuda feels cheap, is hard to install and is not really fixed well (moves a bit) but does give the best mounting solution. So Kuda it is: but not fully satisfied but it does the job for now.

Attached some pictures.

Thanks for the reply. I have a Proclip in my 2017 330ix worked well. I have a new Proclip sitting here for my M340ix sitting outside the factory waiting to go to the port. We will see how it works for me.

Keep us updated on your experience with your mount.

Just installed mine. Same as Calamari solution but pics for if you have the bigger screen setup. Works perfectly for iPhone 11 and doesn't block any vents/screen.

Glad to see it worked out well for you (as I wasn't sure if it's gonna obscure a part of the 10 inch screen).

I just got the Scosche Magicmount too because of Calamari and zachart. Best $12 I’ve ever spent! Doesn’t obscure the iDrive at all even with my OP 6T. And the phone stays fixed there. I don’t know why I didn’t get it earlier.

I use this Belkin one. It’s a bit lower down and out the way. Obviously you lose a cup holder but rarely need two anyway.

Similar solution to others. Phone fits left of the idrive screen. I found this one on wish for like $5 and looks stylish
