Reliable indy in central Scotland

Can anyone recommend a good indy anywhere near Dunfermline and am I correct in thinking that, provided and indy uses genuine BMW parts, the vehicle warranty is unaffected?
I've just been quoted well over £400 for the first service on my 840d and all they do is check the replace the micro filter, check the coolant level plus change the engine oil and filter!

Fairly sure it just needs to be done by a VAT registered garage, but use of BMW OEM parts isn’t necessary. My major service is due in September and it’s £700. Quite ridiculous for some oil, a couple of filters, and 6 spark plugs.

Thanks, didn't know the only requirement is that the garage is VAT registered. I've emailed BMW UK and Eastern BMW Edinburgh and once I have something in writing I'll go ahead.
I've just called Gleneagle Motors in Dunfermline and they confirmed that my warranty won't be affected, just need to be certain that they can reset the iDrive service history.

I wouldn’t rely on anything you get from Eastern - worst garage I’ve ever had the displeasure of dealing with, bunch of dishonest cowboys.

Most people should be able to update on the idrive, but you need someone who’s able to update to the BMW servers too.

I just had a quick google of “BMW specialist Edinburgh”, and a few options seemed to pop up.

There should be a warranty handbook in the car from the PDI. Looking at the latest copy suggests that although you dont need to have servicing done at a BMW retailer the parts used need to be of adequate quality. That opens up a grey area as far as I can see as quality is an opinion. Perhaps a decent indy using genuine parts would be the safest bet on a car so new. Looks like Oil filter and pollen filter are about £165 from BMW.

If you’ve not had the first service yet, check the price for the Service Inclusive pack: might work out cheaper for you depending on mileage / year etc. and you’d have the work done by a main dealer then so no warranty concerns.

I was always under the impression that servicing could be done outside of the dealer network but genuine BMW parts had to be used to keep the BMW warranty intact?

This would be correct. I think you just need to be able to show that the servicing was done by a competent party. If using genuine parts then that would be fine.
