I understand everyone is still in "break in" period, but can someone give an initial impression? How does it compare to your previous BMW?

Power blows away my old 340. Feels like a bigger heavier car. Tech is crazy good and well integrated. I like BMW assistant. There are some weird quirks like trying to shut off the AC. Ride quality is greatly improved over the F30. BMW has gone to usbc connections except in the glove compartment. So u have to get new cables.

That sounds promising! The 340i was known to be a rocket, so if this blows the F30 away

What exhaust did you have on your 340i and how does this one compare?

How does the steering feel?

Steering in sport mode more is responsive and heavier. Exhaust is comparable to my X3 M40i. Probably louder when I step on it. If I didn't know it was a straight six, I might think it was V8. Not as loud as some AMGs I have heard.

So it basically sounds like an F30 with MPPSK?

Are you referring to how the car sounds inside or outside? If the former, have you turned off ASD to hear it without enhancement? I tinkered with BimmerCode and made my F30 340i sound like a V8 Camaro inside the cabin but turned it off shortly because it was fake.

The bigger, heavier remark has be worried a bit. I figured with the upgrade in power, suspension, steering and body stiffness that this would feel more nimble and tossable. I guess you can dress up a pig to the nines and give it full makeup but it'll still be a pig.

That sounded like a warm start to me. My 340i with stock exhaust is louder than that on cold start.

Ha! should hear my M4 on cold mornings, walls inside the house vibrate!

I assume it was a cold start, could have been warmed already, but sounded better than I expected.

Just got back from a test drive with the wife, so I'll give a quick synopsis:

+ Power was actually surprisingly good with nice pull off the line. You won't mistake it for an M3, but it's certainly good enough. Exhaust note was also nice without much of the rattle you here in most of the recent models.

+ Interior is spacious and the materials are very nice. I really liked the cognac color in this one.

- The size / weight increase was immediately noticeable to me. I wouldn't say that it's an all out boat, but it definitely impacts the handling and enjoyment.

- I parked my M3cs next to it, and the size difference was noticeable, which is almost mind-boggling for a 3 series.

- That grill... it has already been talked about ad-nauseum on the forum, so I won't get in to it but man, what a miss by BMW there.

Overall, I see a lot of potential here but BMW has to find a way to shave some weight and fix that grill before it is a serious contender.

Hope this helps...

As long as it's quieter than my M4.... It's getting a little old cold starting at 6am, surprised the neighbors haven't complained yet

Ugh! Those two BOLD line have me concerned... Can you elaborate on the "mistaken for M3", I understand it's not a replacement, but would you be content with that for DD?

Amen brother! The great part about MPPSK is that no artificial sound is piped in through the speakers!

Oh the power is more than fine for a DD, perfectly adequate for this type of car.

Honestly my biggest concern was with the size and weight of the thing. I mean, my M3 is not exactly small by an means and the M340 felt much bigger. I'm curious what the various publications will have to say on that aspect.

Thanks for the mini-review, how was the steering feel? Many reviewers said the M340i was mostly numb

How is the plastic material down the lower sides of the center console tunnel? is it hard cheap plastic or soft touch? Would Full Merino interior cover this?

Thanks for the reply, looks like the information about the M340i using the old steering rack is most definitely true, very dissapointed they couldn't make a new rack/tune the old one better for the inline 6 model. Once the M340i makes its way to dealers near me, I'm going to have to do some extensive test driving and comparisons to the G70 3.3TT that my wife and I are interested in.
