I've seen stock dyno runs of above claimed horsepower at the wheels so it could be over 400 HP at the crank. It is also the transmission gearing that allows for faster off the line acceleration.

Makes sense. The transmission in the Q50 is a bit weak, not built for 400 hp being sent from the motor.

I’ve had my M340i 2 weeks now and l love it.
I’ve been piling on the mileage with a family holiday and some business trips but the car takes it all in its stride and makes long journeys seem so effortless. The build quality and finish is a league above my previous F30 335d and the cabin is a very nice place to be. The engine is magnificent and the car is very quick when pushed, l’m even getting well over 30mpg which is better than I expected. What’s not to like. |

My last car was a '16 340, and I picked up my M340 last week. I have 900+ miles including 400 miles to NorCal. It is truly a "New Generation" from the last; actually it seems like a 10 year step forward. That said, the auto tranny is showing its age; it doesn't compare to the Porsche PDK in any way.
I did not get adaptable suspension, and find that I just get a 'hint' of the bumps. Like Goldilocks said, "Not too hard, not too soft". If you have any thoughts that you might ever want "autopilot", get it. Driving North I probably over rode it once or twice. I do that on my wife's Tesla every 15-20 minutes. |

Have 2k miles and several 1/4 passes on my well equipped m340i now.
Performance is better than my previous f30 340i by far, the laser lights and auto high beam are very noticeably better than the f series led, the autopilot is whatever I rarely use it, gesture control is a gimmick and overall it's a much quieter and better composed car, I do have adaptive suspension on 792m 19s and I find the firmness a little on the rougher side in comfort mode. I tell everyone this, there's always things bmw can do to make these cars better and we can nitpick whatever, but it's just so much better all around than what anyone else is doing imo. |

I've settled a few thousand miles into mine and took it out for a backroads rip this afternoon. I gotta say it is REMARKABLY fast. I gunned it from 25 to 130 and it just pulled the whole way there. Ridiculous. Feels as fast or faster than my E92 M3 the whole way there including M3 8400 rpm redlines. It's a little less planted but does a very good job of keeping you in control. I was even on my 235 square winter set!

Imagine getting this car with 225's square setup, one of the biggest disappointment with this car. Takes more skill to drive car hard since it's more tail happy with these tiny tires.

The more I drive it, the more impressed I get with the motor. This thing is seriously quick, and torquey. Still trying to brake smoothly to a stop with the auto start/stop. But I am near the end of trying to make it work and shutting it off. The main issue is the start stop coming on when you are not at a complete stop. Maybe it is something that can be adjusted at the dealer?

M340xi 3700 miles.
Really like the car, previous car was 2016 340i. New model is a big upgrade. The steering intervention is too aggressive. BMW should cut the intervention in half. The rear cross traffic does not work any where as well my kids Mazda CX5. Other then that the car is awesome. |

^^^^ My last was a '16 340 too, and this car seems at least two generations more advanced. It seems intuitive that 400(+?) hp with small tires will oversteer without judicious application of power.
Both my old and new 340s have had 19" non rf Michelins. FWIW, I'm pleasantly surprised with the compliance and smoothness of the ride without the $700 "adaptable" suspension. I don't find it stiff at all, just beautifully dampened. |

Yep, got the car from out of state and didn't realize that cars from Texas would be spec'ed with all seasons. Either way, all seasons should not have used non staggered setup, nobody else does this. A car with this much power should have 255 rears at the minimum standard in 2019. 265 rears would be even better on this car.

Just took delivery of our Portimao Blue M340i and wow! What a difference from our 16 340i that we returned. I loved my F30, but BMW really improved the G20. I couldn’t believe how tight and connected the car felt in Eco Pro mode of all things. The interior is leaps and bounds the F30.
I can’t wait to get to know her better. |

I'm still not exactly sure what the 'adaptive' does. Does it actually stiffen or loosen the 'sport' suspension. BMW has taken the cheapest method of producing 'adaptive' suspension, and it has serious limitations. But, I will promise you that the fillings you have in your teeth now will last the length of time you have the car without 'adaptive'. Please note in my post above; I do not have rf tires, so my promise is not "Money Back". |

The M340i comes with m adaptive suspension as standard in the UK. It also comes with RFTs as standard as well, unfortunately. I wouldn't consider buying a BMW on 19" rims to be driven on UK roads without adaptive suspension, tbh. I've had it on my last two BMW's and it transforms the ride.

I have run flats and the standard suspension and have no issues with the suspension. It's not harsh at all, of course it's not your grand mother's Camry.

It's all a matter of perspective and point of reference. For someone like me who came from an Infiniti Q50 (and a Lexus IS before that) both of which had very soft seats and soft suspensions, the standard suspension setup in the M340i is pretty shocking. I'm only now starting to get used to it a month into it. And even then my expectations get reset anytime I take out the X5 for a drive with its air suspension that makes it feel like it's gliding over bumps and imperfections.
I never bothered to try out the adaptive suspension but kind of wishing I had. Regardless, I'm not complaining. This car handles significantly better than my previous two, and that to me is well worth the extra bumps in my commute.
