As it turns out I too am considering the Vossen HF-5s for my '21 M340xi - currently on the stock square 791M 19' wheels. I can definitely appreciate the HRE FF10 as well but am looking for a simpler pattern.

I've read the entire post with everyone's aftermarket wheel setups and have also tried to do my homework on square vs. staggered setups as well as spacer choices for flush fitment.

As I understand it the CB for the HF-5 is 66.5mm but the hub bore on the G20 is 66.6mm. So are there spacers/adapters available that will allow fitment of the HF-5s? I'm assuming that's the only way to get them to fit outside of additional machining?

Thanks for any additional info you can provide!
Welcome! Interesting question you have posed; I will do my best to try and provide you with a viable answer. I've personally never seen nor heard of anyone having to custom modify/order specific spacers to install a set of Vossen wheels, or any wheel for that matter. There are plenty of forum members who have Vossen wheels, HRE wheels and just about any other brand of wheel installed with/without spacers - no custom machining required.

Wink I guess it's a non-issue...

Thanks for the response! I actually PM'ed another member who's running Vossen wheels and he said that the 0.1mm difference in bore size wasn't an issue with his car.

Also made a call to Fitment Industries and they confirmed that the HF-5 wheels I'm looking at have a 60.56mm center bore and will fit the G20 with no issues.
So I guess my initial concern is really a non-issue at this point!

Now if I could just decide whether to go with a square or staggered setup on my '21 Xdrive M340...

Awesome! I'm just happy to see someone taking the time to actually ask questions and doing their homework before making a purchase or started a thread that has been discussed a thousand times! For me, squared is to boring, but you gain the ability to rotate your tires fully. Staggered is much more esthetically pleasing, but again that's all dependent on the person.

Keep me posted on what you decide!

I'll be going with a squared setup on mine. Having a G37S coupe for over 7 years, half of which have been lowered on 20" staggered Vossen's, it'll be nice to able to rotate the tires on my daily.

I'll be lowering mine as well but as low as the G37. It satisfies my low life/stance needs lol.

She's dirty in this pic but H&R springs should bring it down to where I want it. Adding their sway bars as well.

Hey thanks I do try to do my homework first!

I completely agree with you on the squared setup being a bit more boring and staggered being more aesthetically pleasing.
With that said, this car is my daily so having the ability to rotate the tires is a plus.

After reading this thread again in its entirety (plus a few others) I understand that the HREs would be a lighter weight option (and they are gorgeous to boot) but I think the Vossens will be easier to keep clean.

At this point I'm pretty sure I've settled on the square 20x9 ET25 setup and am now considering two different tire size options (235/35R20 or 245/30R20) for the Michelin PS4S tires.
Any thoughts/pros/cons for either or both of these options? Right now I'm leaning towards the 235/35/20 option.

When compared to my current 225/40R19 (19x8 ET27) size:
20x9 ET25 235/35R20
  • +1.4% diameter
  • +4.95mm ride height
  • -4.95mm arch gap
20x9 ET25 245/30/20
  • -1.1% diameter
  • +3.8mm ride height
  • +3.8mm arch gap
I've also recently ordered the Dinan lowering springs along with the ride & handling kit (bump stops). When installed this should equate to a 1" drop F/R.

My final objective is to end up with a dropped/flush overall stance/fitment similar to this M340iX on Rohana RC10s. He's running H&R springs along with 15mm spacers all around.
I also think the fitment and stance on GD1981's M340i with Vossen HF-5s is absolutely perfect - also factoring in that he's RWD and has a staggered setup with 12mm/7mm spacers F/R.

I'm also concerned about making sure I have long enough lug bolts. I ordered two sets of 45mm lugs from Dinan but I'm not sure if they'll work with the Vossen wheels? Vossen also sells lugs but only in a 30mm length... Fitment Industries will include a set of lugs and/or locks but I'm not sure if they offer extended lengths.

All these unanswered questions and decisions still to be made...

Did you make your final wheel decision yet chubbiejones?

It’s funny, these were the two wheels I was debating on, but decided to go with the Vossens.

ctbimmerfan thanks for the kind words.

Saw your other post with the pics, those wheels look fantastic!
Assuming they are the liquid metal color option?

PS - What color blue is that on your G20?

I'll bet it does, great color!

Thanks for the wheel shots as well.
Most guys running the HREs seem to have 19's but I have seen one or two with 20's. I'm looking to go +1 as my stock 791Ms are already 19".

Great choice! I ended up ordering a set of Vossen HF5s last week as well (in gloss black)

Went with a 20x9 ET25 square setup with 235/35R20 MPS4 and also ordered a set of the billet blue Vossen center caps to accent the color of my PB M340.

It was a really tough decision but I kept coming back to the overall simpler design of the HF5s vs. the HREs and 795Ms.
The only real downside that I can see is the additional ~40-60# of unsprung weight.

I'm having the Dinan springs and handling kit installed on Monday and I'm getting the windows tinted next Friday (probably going with Madico Black Pearl Non-Reflective 20%).
Ordered the Dinan axle-back exhaust last month but not expecting to see that until early/mid-summer.

Hope to have some pics to share soon!

What wheels do you currently have? The weights I got from Vossen are lighter than my stock 19" 791m wheels.

Diego said the 20x9 HF-5s are around 24-25 lbs each. Weights I found online for my stock ones range from 27-30 lbs each.

In terms of weight, I was told the same, they’re a tad lighter than the stock 19’s setup. That being said, for what its worth, stock 19’s vs the HF-5, I ran an identical 60-110 of 5.64 seconds with my dragy on the same stretch of road.

I have the stock 19x8 791M wheels as well. I didn't speak with Vossen directly on the phone so would have to go by "published" weights.
Pretty sure I saw 37 pounds somewhere.

IIRC the 791M wheels in 19x8 are just shy of 31 pounds each.

Well at least you guys received consistent answers from Vossen - this is encouraging!
I'm just surprised they don't list weights anywhere on their site...

You are correct - back on page No.1, I posted weights for both front and rear wheels - these weights were provided by Vossen via phone.
