Is this literally just a video of a guy talking over a 14-minute slide show of pictures?

If you want a real review, watch Savagegeese.

Ofc it is, dunno why anyone would pick this over the real MX-5/Miata, esp the RF.

Clearly nobody did so it got shelved. The 124 was meant to be more of a grand tourer with some Italian panache thrown in. There was not enough effort put into it IMO.

Yup, it's head-scratcher for me, doesn't look better, maybe even more expensive, only comes in soft-top...just because it has an Italian badge (albeit not much cachet)? Expected result.

Turbo, gets decent power with a tune, works better at altitude. Five lug wheels and the older, non grenading manual transmission that also holds up to power boosts too. It's just kinda ugly.

I have a very heavily modded 500 abarth with the same motor. The multi-air is a lot of fun when modded and boost is turned up (my abarth is running 25 psi). The Mazda underpinnings here are much higher quality than my Chrysler underpinnings. The Abarth 124 is a fun car, and didn't get the credit it deserved

Yup. Totally half assed car. They could've at least made it look beautiful and Italian.

The old 124 wasn't pretty. I suspect many of you are thinking of the Alfa Spyder.

Almost bought a new one because they were being given away in some states. It drove better than a Miata & the turbo helped a bunch. In the end decided the bigger and more powerful M240i was worth the extra 50% in price.

At the track, these look a lot better than Miatas to me. For both of the pictures above somehow they placed the camera on the ground or something. You'll never be able to even see those angles if you walk upright.

Biggest issue is it doesn't look as good as the Mazda does it. I mean it is Italian, if it hasn't got looks it's up against it. It was cheap though at one point, considerably less than the Mazda.

I have owned two of them. A base Classica that I modified and a stock Abarth. They were fun cars and very good values. The Classica was under $20k new out of the door.

ND1/2 Miata > 124.
An NA 2.0L vs a 1.4 Turbo - people could go either way.
The interiors are nearly 1 to 1 replicas of each other.

People that wanted a turbo'd roadster took the ND1 MX-5 and put a BBR turbo or an Edelbrock SC in it.

The average person is probably afraid of maintaining an 'Italian' car, whereas the Mazda brand is much more tame.

If they really wanted to make some thing special, they should have released the special edition Abarth GT with the carbon fiber hard top. Shame it only came to the EU.

Brought this up again as came up with 10k hits. Some say that the 124 doesn't look nice but the MX-5 doesn't make the oriental car more nicer looking and the 124 looks bigger in comparison with more room.

I think they were trading on the nostalgia of the original 124, but when you wait so long, younger people don’t remember. I suspect most of the people buying this were older.

Now that would've been interesting.

Is that just your awkward way of inserting 'oriental' into your post? The sentence structure doesn't flow much but, anyway, I would think that the majority of ppl would say that the Mazda looks better than the Fiat, esp in RF form.

Anyone who considers these cars for size just doesn't get it. That's why the car mkt is like how it is, ppl have limited resources and they want all-in-ones, thereby having to put up w quite a few compromises and why we have, for example, 'M' SUVs, which is ridiculous imo. These Fiata cars are supposed to be less practical and more like toys.

Just needs a hard top. I love the 124 abarth super cool.

Who cares that it's not really Italian. Doesn't look like a clone of every other car on the road.

Mx5 is awesome too but side to side in person? 124.

It's not bad. Looks are sibjective so let's leave that out. It's a turbo Miata, really.

I dated a chick that had one (It was auto sadly), but I drove it a lot. I had no complaints outside of the auto trans. I even did nice donuts in the thing LOL.

I'm on Miata #6 btw. Would never buy one in auto unless I had to for medical reasons

I had a 2003 MX5 Mk 2.5 auto which are very rare over here, a N Ireland UK car and highly sought after., got back what I paid for it at an auction 3 years earlier. Much preferred it to the spindly gear shift of the manual.
