Tires needs to be replaced at 6500 miles!?

Hi guys,

Took my car (2020 330 w M Sport) to the dealer for service, I have about 6500 miles on the car. Dealer tells me my rears are at the wear bar and should be replaced ASAP, especially during Hurricane Season in Florida.

I have the Bridgestone Run Flats (19" staggered). How on earth did they wear so quickly!? I drive mostly highway (about 80% highway driving). Should I try contacting BMW/Bridgestone regarding this? How much wear do you guys get?

Some summer tires around 300 treadwear only last about 15000 miles, and if a tire cannot be rotated they say to expect about half the rating for rear tires.
There are no mileage guarantees on the Bridgestones, so I doubt contacting them will do much. I can check mine tomorrow and see how much tread is left. I am around 5500 miles (IIRC, haven't driven much since March)

Run flats are notoriously bad for wear.

I'm on 4500 miles on my M340i with factory Bridgestone runcraps. Had my car in for some warranty work in July and they did a health check - rears came up with a warning that they are down to 3mm. Fronts at 5.5mm.

I'm religious with tyre pressures.

It's a good excuse to get rid and put on Michelin Pilot Super Sport 4s is how I see a positive.

I removed the Runflats with 500 miles on the clock.
Replaced them with Falken FK510 255/30Y20 on rear.

After 9,800 miles there's still 5.5mm on the rear.
Not bad for RWD and it's mapped to 320bhp.

The fronts are 235/35Y20 and look like new.

Ditch the RFT, people have issues with them all the time.

Okay so it's good to hear that I'm not the only one. I'm itching to get set of some Michelin PS 4! Should I stick to 225/255 or change to 235/265?? I dont like the tires bubbling too much so thinking a slight increase may give it a better handle/aesthetics. What do you think?

Do you have wheel and tire insurance? I know my dealer took advantage of it. Swapping my new for old. Most recently he made a claim that I had a severely bent wheel. I found out 12 days later at another dealer saying that it only had curb rash. Look at my tread wear readings only 12 days apart. Also, I've changed 3 tires through insurance because of random nail punctures and the last was in May. I've never burned out or used launch control even once. I drive the car 2 or 3 times a week. Maybe 2000km - 3000km on them max. I made a police report. I'm sueing them for the tires and other sketchy moves they made, but maybe your insurance will cover it and do all the pain in the butt investigating, I've been scouring for evidence on 4-5 events. Big pain.

I talk more in depth on a local Canadian thread here, could use all the support.

Mine are at 6/32 at 8000 miles. Went to rotate and balance it and the tyre shop guy was shocked. I said it's a known issue!

Umm. I'm not sure. I'm assuming around 9/32 since the car hadn't even done 7 miles when I got it? I'll have to check the forms to see if they've noted it down.

I am replacing my run flats for new tires because run flats are no good. Nice think is my run flats have enough tread to swap out when I return my lease.

Firestone firehawk Indy 500 are what I'm purchasing

Ahh so your car comes with the staggered set up from the factory? Asking cuz I believe the 225 tyres go on 7.5j rims from the factory which could be too skinny to fit 255?

I remember reading this post a while back and was hoping that wouldn't be the case, but it is : /

Last night I hit a huge ditch on the highway that took out my front tire and curbed my rim, so took it to the dealer and they just sent me a quote to replace all four tires with only 7,100 miles...wasn't too happy about that.
