BMW thinks they have created the equivalent of the F80 M3 in a M340, so they are pricing it accordingly.

So will this have a crappier turn radius than s-drive models like the F30? Don't see why we need crappier suspension and turn radius just because it's x-drive.

I think almost everything has been said...but I'll add. No non-M (real M) 3 series, xDrive or otherwise, should start at more than a Corvette. I'm not really a Corvette person, but really BMW? It's also a hair more than a 718. Maybe they're looking for a Nobel Prize in Economics...studying price elasticity.

With all the variations of the M3 they plan to offer, we're going to be talking $80k for a stripper and $120-150k for top end. I mean, really?

Do you really want that 4 door Porsche?
The 3 series are awesome cars and priced well in my opinion.

LOL, that's exactly plastic shoes versus leather shoes.
The difference is so big that we can not even discuss it.
And BTW, Dakota is a great leather, found it more resistant and much more appealing in time than higher leather offered by BMW line like Nappa which look wrinkled and bad after a while.
With once a year maintenance Dakota is excellent.

Ok, that's a valid point. MSRP was a little over $64K. I'm still pretty amazed to see the price point on the G20. We'll see how that translates into real-world prices "on the ground".

It's priced pretty even with some of its competitors:

Audi S4 base MSRP : $50,200
Audi S5 base MSRP : $52,400
MB C43 sedan : $53,400
MB C43 coupe : $55,900

Edit : sorry, guys, for some reason my BPost app only loaded page 1 so i didn’t see the 6 more pages after that. Guess you have extensively picked apart competitive pricing already

I suppose BMW could relocate M340i production to Mexico to help lower MSRP to something more acceptable.

Guys and ladies just wait 3 years and you can pick up a M340i with low miles for sub $30k. It will depreciate like most BMWs.

Wow that sticker price is almost laughable - great for us with newish F80/F82s, prolly just made our M3/M4s that much more desirable when comes time to sell em. Who would pay for a basic "wannabe M car" when they can grab a softly used F80/F82 for same or less. Finally BMW helping me out ha!

BMW must want to put more nails into the sedan coffin with that pricing. In other news, G80 M3 to start at $75k.

Not surprising. The S4/5 and the C43 are already priced higher than the F30 340i. They're obviously moving up market with the other pseudo-performance cars (which is a fucking dumb gimmick, but whatever) because muh profits.

I don't know, 382hp and and LSD aren't pseudo-performance.

The new Z4 M40i had a 6 second lower Nurburgring lap time than the N55 M2. Is the M2 more of a pseudo-performance car then?

And this was with a Euro-spec Z4 with less HP than the M340i.

Supposedly the driving review embargo lifts this week (today?) so we shall see very soon.

Agreed. I'm really hoping this reduces depreciation on our F80s.

Based on my experience, the majority of the population can't distinguish between M-sport/M-performance and actual M cars. They see M badges and assume it's an M car. BMW knows this and is merely taking advantage.

Mercedes does the same with their 43 bullshit. Hell, even their own dealerships barely distinguish between actual AMG built engines and 43 engines. When customers see AMG, M, or S/RS they assume it's all the same.

I went into a Mercedes dealership a few months ago with my cousin checking out a C43. I laughed at the 70k sticker. Salesman kept trying to convince us that it's equivalent to an M4.

I guess its around 63-65k €. Similar to C43. And the M Performance models are pretty good specced for a BMW.

Could also be around €68k, because X3 M40i is priced around that.

Get ready for the BIG decline of the 3-series.

At this point; it's NOT the sales leader at BMW. It's reputation was the world's best sedan is long gone; died years ago with the death of the E90. It's now just a charmless exercise of marketing. It used to be a car that didn't even need heavy marketing now it's all it really has...

20 years ago people may have embraced a high priced M340i. Times have changed. Society has changed. Cars have changed. The 3-series is trying every marketing trick in the book to stay relevant; but it's clearly struggling to do so.

These close to $60k sedans will still get leased to aspiring professionals for $599 a month; who will happily gloat about the cheesy and cheerful M badges. The admiration, however, of cars like this has already faded considerably and will continue to fade.

Hell, I'll lease an M340i for $599... I sure as hell know its not even remotely an M car, but for a daily driver; it's still an awesome car... Your other choices are an ugly C43 or an S4...

And also; I actually doubt it will be $599; which is the real reason why it won't sell... BMW killed lease incentives.
