Would think these increases would actually be felt and worth the small damage risk and money for the mapping.
275WHP I assume? Or else, thatís only 20 more than crank. I had a B9 A4 and stage 1 tune (with every hardware stock) was between 310-315bhp with a 0-60 time of 4.5s and quarter mile time of 13.2-13.3s. When it comes to tunability, I think the A4 is better. I know people who are on stage 2+/3, hybrid turbos etc doing 0-60 in 3.7-3.8s and the quarter mile in the very early 12s. A simple piggy back and intake and it did the 0-60 in 4.7s and 0-100 in 11.9s with quarter mile in 13.6s (my car).

Actually meant at the crank / BHP. Safety of the engine is the most important factor to me. High ambient temps and humidity, along with only 95 RON / 91 AKI, kind of limits you. I assume the gear box can handle much more, so not really a concern.

If itís at the crank, a JB+ brings around 20-25bhp to the table easily. Except all the inheriting properties of the car will probably be amplified (like the jerkiness in Sport mode).

Thanks. Probably wait until after the warranty is up, and going to get the 5 year extended warranty so by that time there will be a lot more information available to make decisions.

Dinan

I personally think i will wait for the Dinan flash to come to market. When asked they mentioned that they're currently working on the N55, B58 and new M5 engine but once those are completed they will circle back to the others.

Just would feel better knowing that the tune would be written by engineers rather than who knows what over at PTF. The matching warranty doesn't hurt either.

The question is, how long will i be waiting?

The B46/B48 engine has been out for a while now and they donít have any tunes (even for the F30 cars). Only piggybacks. And their most expensive piggyback is almost $900. So Iím sure their tune will be in the $1500 range. Not sure if a tune is worth it for that much.

I'm just going based off of what they told me when i reached out earlier today. If i'm not mistaken Dinan is just fairly recently getting back into the flash tuning world.

Ah gotcha. I guess they concentrated on piggybacks and are now back to tuning?

Why arent you just going to a highly recommended custom tuner if youre concerned about realibility? Its safer than a shitty piggyback.

I did. And my car was temporarily bricked for 3 days. And then they said theyíd remotely tune my car for me but they never showed up. Nor did they respond to me after that. So I thought enough was enough and went for the JB+ for now.

Im not saying a OTS flash but a custom remap done on a dyno. They will fine tune your specific engine during few hours. A jb+ is just tricking the dme to turn up boost with nothing else changed.

Ahhh. Well unfortunately. Where I live. The closest all wheel dyno is more than an hour away. And I think Iíd have to pay $1000+ for a custom tune, along with dyno fees and stuff which would come to around $1200 in all. I wouldnít spend so much just for a tune on a 2.0. Especially considering my car is a lease and will go back at the end of the lease (I wonít buy it out). The JB+ satisfied my needs for now. I might try an OTS tune again in a few months. Or better. If I can actually take it to a shop that will flash it for me, Iíll look into that.

I might do the dyne tune eventually depending on the OTS tunes available. I plan on keeping my 330 for a long time, so for me it would be worthwhile to have a top notch tune. Definitely makes sense on your end to not drop that type of coin on a lease. I'm content with it as is right now though, it's plenty quick and is a great handling car. Glad your butt dyne confirms the JB+ is doing it's thing. Maybe I'll look into that in the mean time while I wait for a proper tune. Does it feel factory or does the boost hit you in the face at once?

So JB+ doesnít alter any other parameters except increasing boost? No timing, no fuel mixture, nothing?

My stock 330i didnít have turbo lag (coming from an A4 B9 which had slight turbo lag). With the JB+, I can feel the lag before the turbo kicks in. When the turbo kicks in, it feels like the front end is going to lift off the tarmac and do a wheelie well not that much but still. It feels like the turbo kicks harder which makes it seem like the car has turbo lag now (lag when the turbo hasnít spooked up). Iím the city, it feels stock.
And if you plan on keeping the car then yes. Iíd spend that money on it, especially if it comes with a warranty. Else, $400 a year ($1200 for three years of fun) doesnít sound too good to my wallet.

Nope. It only increases the boost and nothing else. Fools the car into thinking it is in someplace that is at a much higher altitude.
I wouldíve got the JB4 but the install looked crazy. Thatís why I didnít get it.

Thanks for the reply LJ. Not sure itís wise I mess with that with only 91 AKI fuel and very hot and humid weather, sounds like a recipe for knock and detonation.

I agree. But I’ve spoken to quite a few people running JB+ (and most of them on the max setting) for months on end now and all of them said they haven’t had any issues whatsoever (No CELs, errors, limp mode etc) even in the summer. Which is what gave me the confidence to go for JB+. The only issue I read with JB+ was when someone got a bad box and another guy who bought a fake box (because he was tricked by the seller). Plus Terry is well known in the bmw community. And mike is a stand up guy.
Also, I’m running 93 AKI. Idk if that matters or not but yes. Car is performing flawlessly in these temps (it’s cold here). I even scanned my car for any errors yesterday and there were absolutely none. The car boosts harder and I can feel the difference. I’d say around 15-20hp at the wheels?

Edit - Sorry. I just realised you meant it wasn’t wise for you to mess with it. If you’re looking for a temporary boost in power (no tuning till you’re out of warranty), I’d recommend the JB+ at around the 50%? You can contact terry or mike if you have doubts. Mike is always ready to answer. I haven’t spoken to terry ever but I’m sure he’ll answer your questions too. I know guys running JB+ in the Middle East without issues and it gets insanely hot there (40+C days and high humidity).

Thanks man.

I would be curious to know what octane the chap in the middle east is running on. There is actually quite a bit of difference in regards to safety / knock prevention when running on 91 AKI or 93 AKI.

I wonder what testing is / has been used by Terry and Mike to confirm that the JB+ is not causing knock or detonation when using on various boost strength settings, various octane levels and climate types. I had a little device on my Sti7 that was basically a little microphone device that was placed in a strategic location on the engine block and if knock was detected it would light up a series of lights on the display of the dash mounted device. How do these guys measure det or knock in their testing I wonder?

Cheers

Iíll try to find out. One of my cousins knows a few people who run JB+ and JB4 there without issues. Iíll get back to you. But Iím willing to bet theyíre running 95 or 98 RON since fuel is cheap there. Iíll confirm and get back.
