After some months of deliberating... I've gone and done it today. Yes, I caved. I went ahead with lowering my car with a set of H&R Sport springs. I've put it off for a very long time, because our roads are typically filled with potholes and my carpark ramps at home and at work are angled and steep -- so I was worried about scraping my lip.
Well, the good news is: if I'm the only person in the car, I can clear my condo carpark just fine. But add the wife, baby and some groceries, and I am scraping a ramp ever so slightly. Will have to try and go even slower to see if that helps... In the meantime, I'm very happy with the way my car looks now :-D There's a 2 finger gap on the front and a 1.2 finger gap on the rear. Thank you! It does look great, but I will admit it comes at a cost. Local roads are filled with potholes and I have felt every single one of them. I took a relaxed drive at 1am through town this morning and man, it was not comfortable. I've not yet been able to properly give the car a run through my usual Sunday route (it was wet last weekend) so I really want to know how she is in the twisties on dry surfaces.

Went for a drive with some friends and had a short drive in a car equipped with ST XA coilovers. I was sold immediately. While my car drives nicely now, it is quite harsh over bumps, ramps, and potholes in the city. Let's see how it goes. Still have until the end of the week to place an order before prices go up 8-10%... |

Can't believe I've gone and done it... oof.
Had a small group buy with some friends, so got a reasonable price before the 1st Aug increase. Out with the old (including the not-so-old H&R Sport springs). A quick check on my rubbers, looks like I'm using them reasonably well too. And done. Now, to run them in and expect a little drop. Last edited by n0wjsti; 08-05-2022 at 11:43 AM.. |

So, bad news. My car was parked (correctly in a legitimate spot) on a Tuesday night as I was out for drinks with some friends. We saw a drunk man waddle to his car and, as he drove away, he loudly crunched into a car then sped off. Unfortunately for me, that parked car was mine.
Luckily we had some eye witnesses who took pictures and shared the plates with me. For now, it is the long process of making a police report and waiting for the results (2 weeks) and an insurance claim process (2-6 weeks). The damage doesn't look too bad, but I also don't like driving with an eyesore... |

Dropped the car in for a routine service (oil change, etc) just before a short local vacay (200km drive north for a little getaway) and noticed that my carpark bay had a leak. I figured it would have been from the car before me -- after all, my car was just serviced, right? Well, no such luck. Got home and noticed the oil stain. 5 days, couldn't even last one week drama free. I parked in another bay just to be sure if was from my car and in one hour, there was about a half finger worth on the ground. To be fair, that spot grew bigger than my palm in just 12 hours!
And it has been near 5 weeks since a drunk driver crunched into my car. Am still waiting for parts to arrive (bumper will be replaced). In the meantime, I figure I'll pop in that loose piece and send the car for a nice wash. Move far away for a picture and no one will notice what's wrong, ja? You can't see it from here but that carbon flick is broken and definitely needs to be replaced. Ka-ching. |

After 2 long months, the BMW Service Center called to let me know all parts have arrived and I could send my car in for the body work from insurance claim.
In the meantime, I went and bought another car... |

So 3 weeks into the bumper replacement and the G20 still isn't home yet. In the meantime, the E36 has come home. So yes, most of the funds will now be channeled towards the E36

Finally, the brothers meet! 26 years and 4 generations of 3 Series (and err, half the gears) separate the pair.

For the first time today, I took the E36 up the hills. It was a little bit scary -- WOT past 5k tends to trigger a limp mode, resulting in the car not being able to rev past 2k rpm. The good news: this can easily be "fixed" by simply turning off and turning on the car. Think of it like a Windows reboot hahah.
In the one week that the car has been home, I've made it a point to drive her as much as I can, so that I can get to learn the car's characteristics. I believe that once the manual swap has been completed, she will be a much more fun car to hoon around in. |

I've been driving the E36 daily, only swapping for the G20 when I need to pick up my daughter from school (as it has a child seat). I've found that the G20 is also the much more fun vehicle to bring up the hills, which is exactly what I did over the weekend. And a quick timelapse: |
