Question How do you order the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires?

I just ordered a 2023 M340i xdrive with 19" M Double-spoke jet black wheels, style 791M w/performance Run Flat tires.

The dealer is saying it's luck of the draw on which tire brand will be fitted on it, but I heard terrible things about the Bridgestone Potenza run flats.

Any advice on which one to order to get the Michelin?

- 19" M Double-spoke Bi-color Jet Black Wheels, Style 792M with Mixed Tires
- 19" M Double-spoke jet black wheels, style 791M w/performance Run Flat tires.

The other options are all-season and those limit the top speed. I don't want those as I'm in Germany with the military and Autobahn

You will need to select the cooling and high performance tire package.

Not sure if things have changed, but when I ordered my 2020 m340, I selected the "performance non run flat" to get the Michelins.

2023 LCI does not have that option any longer. You have to get the Cooling and HP Tire Package.

If you don't want to splurge, go with the run flats. Take a view yourself. There is a lot of confirmation bias in the anti-run flat crowd. ie, I've spent money on replacing them, so I want what I've spent money on to be better. There is much more resistance (My view) to Run Flats from US customers.

I've always had Run Flats on my BMWs here in the UK, and many cars with non-Run Flats before that. I have no issues with Run Flats. BMW design the car, and its steering and suspension systems for them.

I'd suggest taking them (nothing wrong with Bridgestone Potenzas in my view - they wear and grip well). Then, once you've worn them out, buy a set of whatever takes your fancy at that point.

RF have their advantages - you don't need a spare, nor a repair kit. You can drive out of trouble with them without ruining your rims. On my day 2 of ownership, I hit some debris on a motorway here in the UK - it slashed the RF, but I was still able to drive off the motorway and for a few miles to a safe place where I could deal with it. Disadvantage, once you've driven on them, they are done - but my tyre was done in any case with the slash in the sidewall from the debris. My wheel was completely fine. You couldn't have done that on a non-run flat.

Just a view! Cheers, S

Something else to consider is the top speed limiter. My understanding is that in the US cars with the run flats are limited to 136 MPH. When I ordered the ZTK package on my M340ix there was an added line in the standard options that was not there previously. It read "Increased top speed limiter." I asked my CA about it. He stated that on the high performance tires the top speed limit is increased to 156 MPH. It's curious that BMW does not promote or market this fact. But, I can assure you that feature was not in my original build sheet. But, was only there in the second build sheet. After I added that package. Definitely something to consider Spidey. If you are ordering a US spec car. Because... Autobahns.

I thought it was limited to 136 mph on US cars if you got all season run-flats. If you get performance mixed run-flats (I chose the High Perf. Run-flats) then top speed is 155. I checked my VIN on my order and it includes the code 840 HIGH SPEED SYNCHRONISATION.

That's good. I only knew of the increased speed with the ZTK package. Glad it can be done without dropping that much money. I'm still happy I got the package. But, as I said. I'm curious as to why more isn't said about that. BMW is probably missing the boat with a lack of marketing there.

You can just go to tire rack and get a set
