My 2015 328i xDrive was built in South Africa, and my 2021 M340i xDrive was built in Mexico. There are a lot of BMW 3 series cars that were not built in Germany.

USA market 3 series production (excluding M3) has been completely stopped in Germany since the start of this model year, with all exclusively coming from Mexico. To date there is no evidence that suggests otherwise from all the orders stated here.

If you have a German produced 3 series car in the US, it is either not a MY2023 (which even then prior year German production for USA was pretty limited for many years now, prior USA production before the Mexico plant was a thing came from South Africa), an M3 (M cars are built in Germany iirc), or they are buying in a different market other than the USA (some evidence suggests some Canadian orders here are German produced)

To put simply, if you are in the US and are buying a new 3 series sedan other than the M3 models, it’s coming from Mexico. And no, it doesn’t matter. There is no difference whether its produced in Germany, Mexico, or South Africa. Built the same way using the same parts. The key is what config you can have, which is predetermined based on your region, and has nothing to do with where its built.

Seems like all you need to do is ask your dealer to order merino leather for you in the US and the car will be made in Germany.

Not for the US, all 3 Series are made in Mexico.

I spoke with 2 different SAs today and both said most of the 3 series were coming from Germany... this just shows what they [don't] know. Sales people will be sales people.

We don't have the merino leather option in the US at all.

FYI

Parts Content Information

US/Canadian Parts Content: 10%

Foreign Parts Content:
-Germany: 40%
-Mexico: 18%

For this Vehicle:
-Final Assembly Point: San Luis Potosí, Mexico

Country of Origin:
-Engine: Germany
-Transmission: Germany
Second this - my 2020 330i is a Mexico build and I'm very happy with the build quality.

At the end of the day the vehicles are built where it makes sense for BMW and their supply chain - most times you won't have any control over where it's built but they follow the same processes, QC, and use the same equipment at all the plants so it's doubtful you'd see any meaningful difference outside of the VIN number telling you what country it was built in.
