Remote Start does not turn on heated seats/steering wheel?
Hi all, been using the remote start feature now that it's getting colder. One thing I noticed is that it does not turn on the heated seats/steering wheel feature. Any ideas on how to enable this feature? I did some limited research and the "turn seat warmer on below "x" degree" feature is on but it will not engage until I press the start/ignition button.
Appears that other models have had the same issue but can't seem to find a fix. Any ideas? Thanks! |

probably on purpose. Avoid the "McDonalds hot coffee" lawsuit and unfavorable publicity.

Are you sure they didn't just automatically come on once you got in and pressed the start button to confirm/exit remote start mode? Mine does that, if the outside temp is under the 'seat warming' temp set in iDrive. But nothing I do will make the seats pre-warm during remote start. Even if they were turned on when the car was last turned off.
This is really lame. Kind of negates remotely warming your car up in the winter if the seats are still ice cold when you get in. I'm sure it's some BS safety regulation, but hope it's something that can be changed via coding at some point. |

Same could be said of any gripe about any luxury convenience feature of a $50k+ car. From that perspective, why have remote start at all? You don't really need it, do you?
And of course this is a 1st world problem, we're on an internet forum complaining about the minuscule shortcomings of luxury sports vehicles. Last edited by 2020g20; 11-02-2019 at 11:59 AM.. |

Car climate control is something American cars do as well as pushrod V8 engines.

I'd gladly trade remote HVAC capability for remote seat heating and rear window defrost. I couldn't care less if it's blowing hot air into the cabin for 15 minutes...the seats and rear windows could really use that head start though.

also seems oil/coolant comes to temp slower than my F30 did in temps under 40f

While we're griping about first world heat problems, BMW absolutely did decontent a couple of things on the G20 that I've noticed now that it's getting cold. At least compared to my G01 and previous F25.
1) heated steering wheel no longer has an automatic option. Was nice to set that to engage automatically at a desired temp like the seats. 2) no longer has the ability to adjust bottom vs. back temperatures on the seats. I miss that feature. It was nice to be able to turn down the butt temp and keep the back toasty, or whatever. |

Makes no sense
I don’t get the point of remote start if you cannot have the front and rear defrosters come on with the remote, much less the seat heat. I don’t get it. I just got an M340 last week and discovered this disappointment this week. Our 2017 Nissan Rogue automatically turns on both rear defroster and front defroster (full blast) with remote start. The seat heat comes on With the remote start if you remember to leave the mechanical button on when you park it. And BMW can’t do it in a $70,000 tech laden rolling computer?

They're just spiting us, remote start wasnt something they wanted to offer at all and worked hard to make warmup faster from cold start. #gretapackage

Not that this makes it ok but at least BMW offers remote start. Audi's don't even offer it. When we were cross shopping our X5 with the Q8, the Audi salesperson said Audi doesn't offer remote start because idling cars is illegal in Germany. I decided not to point out that we're in the US and remote start can easily be added...

Are you saying that a work around may be to secure the driver seatbelt before exiting the vehicle? Will that activate the heated seat on remote start up?
