UK M340i 20 vs 21 Engine Acoustics
Hello folks,
I'm sure this has probably been explored and discussed in previous threads (if so, my apologies if I've missed that conversation), but I've been assessing the balance of opinion on the G20 M340i (presumably those manufactured up to around autumn 2020) version in comparison with the new mild hybrid (2021 onwards) in terms of engine sound. Am I right to assume that the issue of resonance and verve (pops and burbles) being noticeably reduced also applies to those of us in the UK? (It did occur to me that the muted acoustics might be something that, unlike cars built for the US, has always affected builds for EU--well, now former EU!--customers, thanks to emissions regs/filters.) Which is to say: can any folks who have knowledge of the recent M340i distinctions (between 2020 and subsequent MHT engines) in the UK tell me whether is it still worth trying to get that earlier, 2020 version because it'll guarantee richer exhaust notes? Or alternatively, is it more practical, when the time comes, simply to get the latest model (with the MHT) and order the M Performance Exhaust, under the assumption that the MPE will compensate for the muted acoustics? Thanks very much for any advice you're able to offer! Last edited by DavidXJ; 03-27-2021 at 05:21 PM.. |
