G20 leather seats hot even on moderately warm days
Cars I've previously driven with leather seats have occasionally made me feel uncomfortably warm on very hot days, but the G20 leather seats make me feel hot, even on moderately warm days when temperatures are in the 70s.
I don't know if it's the the shape of the G20 seat cushions that causes this, or if it's the way BMW processes and seals the leather. Whatever the cause, it's preventing me from ordering a new M340. I wish BMW sold their vehicles here with premium cloth seats as I believe they do in Europe, rather than limiting choices to non-breathable SensaTec or leather. Has anyone else noticed this when driving the new 3 Series? Last edited by Bud Webber; 06-15-2019 at 06:23 PM.. Reason: Title revised |

The cars you test drove, are they really Vernesca leather or Sensatec? Synthetic material are known to be less breathable than real leather. Honestly I don't know why BMW doesn't offer ventilated seats not air cool but leather with small holes to let hot air out.

Hot Leather Seats
The seats in both G20s I drove were leather, and the color is irrelevant as I didn't drive either one on a sunny day.

The color makes a bigger difference than you think. On a cloudy cool day I can still feel a big difference between the tan napa leather in my M3 and the black napa in my 530. The 530 seats are almost always hotter and the 530 is tinted with 3m crystalline and the m3 has no tint but the m3 seats are cooler. The difference is bigger when the sun is out but like I said, noticeable even on cloudy days
