Have you tried ECSTuning? Shipping costs to Canada may be expensive though...

if I understand correct the Mperf brakes not worth it if coming from Sport brakes

but for someone like me with the base (non Sport brakes) is this worth it in your opinions? especially with limited options for upgrading the brakes
yes it is a massive upgrade

I went from base brakes to M Performance red and it's night and day stopping power and pedal feel. It looks sexy af too how it fulls the entire 19" wheel with the big calipers

Did you have to change out the brake booster and master cylinder?

Interesting since BMW don’t suggest this is required as part of the retrofit kit.

How come you felt the need to do this?

Did you have pedal feel issues before upgrading the MC?

Yeah pretty bad pedal feel

There are 2 versions of the M Performance Red Big Brake Kit. The ones that need the new Booster/Master assembly are Euro Spec G20s

Everything is explained clearly in this post:

Sorry to go off topic here but I've got a burning question. I just ordered my 2021 m340i but opted for the stock blue calipers. Are the red M sport any different than the blues? I assumed not b/c it was a 0$ to "upgrade" to the red.... Did I just screw it up big time? TIA

I have the standard blue brakes on my 2020 M340i was wondering if the M Performance rotors will fit and if anyone has the part number for just the rotors

I agree! Initially, because many people said it's not worth the money so I didn't bother. However, the change came one day when I was driving on the highway. The stock M Sport calipers are good for below 140km/h. I go above 200km/h and the stopping power/distance is NOT ENOUGH!!One time, I couldn't stop in time and luckily the side lane was empty so that's what saved me, I steered to the side lane. When I came to a complete stop, I was lookin at the car's right rear wheel (in front of me). If I hadn't steered to the side lane, I would've collided with the car in front for sure and couldn't stop. M Performance's stopping power so far has been enough with my spirited driving on the highway and another time I was forced to come to a complete stop from 190km/h, the distance was WAY SHORTER and also a BIG improvement for daily driving as the car doesn't nod whenever I brake.

Just to clarify on few things:
1. M Sport calipers come in both RED and BLUE, hence the upgrade for $0
2. M Performance calipers are WAY BIGGER and also the rotors and pads are MUCH different
3. M Performance calipers according to Brembo are their high performance calipers, you WILL feel and GET that difference at high speed driving under harsh conditions, if just street regular driving under 140km/h, M Sport should be enough
4. 320i owners, you need to upgrade the brake booster in order to truly appreciate both the M Sport or M Performance calipers, you can still change from the stock silver brakes to M sport and get that 10~20% difference

To conclude on the M Performance brake kit:
1. MUCH BETTER stopping power
2. with MUCH BETTER stopping power, you don't have to worry about the brake kit feeling TOO aggressive, it FEELS aggressive when you get aggressive with the pedal
3. rest assured, on daily driving street basis, feels very linear and also the nodding is gone! (remember to get coded along with the M Performance brake kit)

It’s still worth reminding that if you have a M340i with either the M Technology Package or Track Handling Package, you will already have 374mm front rotors and in that case - the M Performance brake kit will literally change your brake calipers and replace them with identical ones. The only difference would be that the M Perf kit comes with dimpled and slotted rotors.

The M Performance kit is only an upgrade on cars with the 348mm M Sport brakes, or on cars with the stock brakes.

The best upgrade for G20 remains fitting G30 spec 395mm 4 pot calipers and rotors.

You can even fit the X3 ///M specific drilled discs with the 395mm calipers for an even bigger upgrade.

Or you can grab a set of front 6 pot calipers from a G05 X5M competition with the 395mm discs from the F97 X3M competition

Additionally, the 6 pot calipers from a G80 M3 or F90 M5 are the same as the G05 X5M competition. All that is required is to purchase the adapter bracket. I will conducting this upgrade in the near future; once complete I will draft a full install thread

Yep, the F95 X5M’s are bolt on. They share the same discs as the X3M.

The adapter bracket from the F95 brakes is not sold separately sadly - so I’m assuming you mean an aftermarket bracket for the F90 / G80 calipers?

I’ll look out for your progress pics!

You are correct, BMW does not offer the bracket or the mounting hardware separately. I will be purchasing a set of adapters from Tronik

I was able to purchase a set of gently used calipers from a M5 for an extremely low price.

I have read quite a few of your posts on other threads; appreciate all the information you have provided!

Both the front and the rear will be upgraded. The rear I still need to understand the requirements. I know the larger rotors from the X3M will install with no issues but I'm not 100% certain on the caliper and mounting bracket similarities. From what I've read, the calipers are basically the same but the mounting bracket is different to accept the larger rotor.

blau3er do you have any insight as to the requirements for the rear?

Looking to add the M Performance brake kit to my 330e. Through getbmwparts it's $2,800 shipped to me (shipping, tax, etc.) which ends up about $500 cheaper than ordering from my local dealer. Has anyone had these installed by the dealer & what was the cost? The installation sheet says 3.0 hours for dealer installation & then coding.

Sorry missed this, I spend most of my time on the F series forum (I own a F31)

Yes - the X3M fits onto the rear of the G20 without issue. I have a photo showing them working perfectly.

You need X3M rear calipers (complete units) and X3M discs. You need to trim and modify the electronic parking brake plug (on the caliper side) to work with the G20 parking brake plug.

Hope this helps!

Hi Guys,

I know the F97 X3M brake upgrade for the M340i is "plug & play", but what is the minimum wheel size required? I am running standard 19s, and I know the X3M runs 21s. Do 19s provide sufficient clearance for the X3M discs/calipers?

Thanks

Andy
