Thanks CSBM5 and zazzau for this info. That's something I wasn't aware of.

I'm not going to track the car. I do like a spirited drive every now and again and I might take it the drag strip once. You think I should avoid the Tech Pack?

What if I plan to modify the car a little but down the line, would it matter if I had this or not?

Does it have much heat soak issues or brake fade without the Tech Pack?

Do they ship to Australia? Looks like the cooler is completely covered, does it still keep it cool? I says it does an the website, but in reality?

As far as I know this is just an EXTRA transmission oil cooler isn't it? If there was no technology package where would the cooler go instead? or would there just be an empty space underneath?

It's an engine oil cooler that is added with the tech package. All cars get the transmission fluid cooler as standard.

No. We just spec'd out and ordered a 2024 M340i and took delivery a couple of weeks ago. The staggered 792 wheels with mixed tires were specified, and they were stated as coming with summer performance tires. Without the tech package though, they equip the car with Bridgestone S001 runflats (BMW * version) in the same sizes as the PS4S (225/40-19, 255/35-19)...even though we also ordered the space saver spare tire option. Not that it really matters, but when the mixed 792 wheels with summer tires are selected as in our case, the max speed limiter is raised also (as is included in the tech package).

That provides no accommodation for the oil cooler...really bizarre. Oh, notice the red highlighted text: "Not Suitable for Vehicles with ZTK Package " This is just a replacement underbody panel to take the place of the stock plastic parts. Also, their write up about it discussing the oil cooler is a copy/paste over from cars with oil coolers (i.e. M2/3/4, etc, and of course ZTK package which this product is not designed for). They need to rewrite this product's description.

Here is Turner's lower protection plate design for a car with an oil cooler (in this specific example an F80 M3 but they all are similarly located): https://www.turnermotorsport.com/p-3...8x-skid-plate/

Note some are still not satisfied with the open sections of the Turner design and install mesh screening across them to protect the cooler. Other sources provide solutions with mesh screen protection too.

Here are some links from the G80 section regarding protecting the oil cooler (along with numerous posters showing debilitating damage):

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2048875

https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2077651

I'm sure something could be mildly modified to fit the G20 installation (especially if it was simply installing stiff screening material).

That’s a personal decision. Driven mine in the hot desert of Palm Springs with temperatures as high as 110F - zero heat soak! Folks on numerous threads on this forum have reported tracking without this package and have had no problems. It depends; some folks here get the package just for the aesthetics. There’s benefits to having this if you’re tracking and/or if you live in an especially hot region - the extra cooling goes a long way.

Bingo! See different part numbers for ZTK, i.e. S33TA=Yes:

OK, good to know. As I'm not going to be tracking it at all maybe if I find the right car and it doesn't have it then it won't be a deal breaker for me.

I'm struggling to find a G20 (pre CLI) with M seats and the Tech Pack. There's only 1 for sale at the moment with M seats but it doesn't have the Tech Pack (and not my first choice in colour). I'll just have to be more patient.

Do you know if the standard seats can be swapped for the M ones? Or is it impossible to find M seats for sale too?

I personally specced the M Technology pack for the bigger brakes but purposefully avoided the M seats as I'm 6'3" and the rear seats would become completely unusable due to the large plastics at the back of the seats. Keep this in mind.

So this is just an EXTRA engine oil cooler to additionally help to lower temps? Then if no technology package is selected would there just be no cooler there and you're left with an empty space underneath where it would've been installed?

No, it's nothing down there without the package. I truly hope it's not present in the EU spec even with the package, as I'm not going to track it anyway. I'll be able to confirm in a week when I receive my car.

Found another way of spotting the Tech Pack, here's a comparison of the front brake discs/rotors. Significantly larger on the Tech Pack on the right.

M440i GranCoupe M Technology Package / Wheels

Hi,

In Australia I am told that if I want the M Technology Package (ie. larger brakes & cooling) then I can only have the smaller 19” wheels and not the 20” wheels. This seems like an illogical trade off. Anyone have experience and can advise on whether I can order the 20” wheels AND the M Tech pack?

It's the same here in the US. I assume the reason is that the 19" PS4S BMW "*" tires that come with the ZTK package were developed for the car, and there is not a similar BMW * 20" PS4S that was developed. Hence in any market if you specify the ZTK package, I'm guessing it comes with the 19" wheels/PS4S* tires.

Mine in Europe came with Pirelli P Zeros.
