Definitely. People think of Seiko as cheap quartz. i have a colleague who works in Japan and he asked me for watch advice and I pointed him to this. He gets more comments from the Japanese on that than any other watch. You hit the nail on the head though... for people who value status, Seiko (even if Grand) is a no-go. I don't really value status (much). I keep looking in on GS and I think they are real horological bargains, but I have too long of a wish list to pull the trigger just yet.

Bkborn's GS is lovely...inspired me to revisit some vintage Seikos that I've had lying around, in this case a Speedtimer from the 70s. Well worn and not a shelf queen by any means, but I don't wear it often enough. |

Very cool... shades of the Omega space master case shape. God the 70's were weird!

For the average watch buyer we tend to buy the common luxury brands like Rolex, omega, Breitling etc.. But for those that like to do a little research on a brand like Grand Seiko before pulling the trigger on a purchase will appreciate the brand even more once u see the work involved into making them. I didn't have to visit Japan to see one after seeing a few videos, while also looking at some watch blog site reviews. There is a reason why they get praises and horology awards from the Swiss watch world. the Quality and craftsmanship that go into these watches are second to none.

Well, I was afraid someone would ask, because now the truth comes out! I only have the three, so you will start seeing serious repeats! I am a fan of VC - the history, the design. I am currently "on the hunt", but my M2 has set the timing back on my next watch, I think. Really liking the new Overseas from VC - probably the world timer. Then again, I have my eye on a Patek 5960 - likely stainless. But... more and more I keep returning to Lange... damn, that Saxon styling and movement finish is starting to grow on me. A well-patinated "German steel" movement is so beautiful to behold, along with the different "dimensional" architecture... Decisions decisions... #1stworldproblems
