square vs staggered setup (For 19)
For M340, which do you prefer and why?
I heard square (all season) has speed 130 limiter but you can rotate tires so saves some money on tires. Staggered (summer) looks better but cant do tire rotation. Tires can be more expensive? Can you tell if the staggered looks thicker from behind like the m3 does? Does staggered actually look better and is it worth? |

I have staggered. Initially, I just wanted the 840 option for higher speed limiter. Now that I’ve had a summer performance tire…it’s nice. It’ll be more expensive since I’m not rotating but I’m not too concerned.
I’ll probably end up using an all season for winter and rotating back to summer tires. Does it look better?…I guess. I just prefer the driving characteristics now. I’m not sure anybody else knows they’re staggered but me |

For daily driving only, it’s all personal preference and ability to rotate or not rotate tires.

When I bought my car you had to get the Performance tire and Cooling package to get the 155mph speed limit and staggered tires. IIRC, it also came with larger brakes, and you got a mobility kit (for flats) and a couple other changes.

Just wanted to chime in to clarify something. I just bought a 2020 that had the staggered wheels and non RF summer tires from the factory. It still has the 130mph speed limiter. So it appears you need to have the additional 840 increased speed limiter code added. Don't assume the staggered non rf summer tires automatically comes with the raised top speed.

Depends what you want. We bought with this being a practical daily. If performance was important the cooling package would have been the way. This being said, I do think the standard wheel package could use a little beefing up, I would like a wider tire.

Now, saying that, I have RWD, and I have the square set up with all season tires. The reason for me is this vehicle is my daily driver, and I don’t want to swap out my summer tires in the colder months. |

I'm planning to get the RWD, so it sounds like I should get the staggered setup. If I get Staggered from factory, can I change the wheels to squared (same size) later if I want to?

Get the wheels tires you want. Top speed limiter is moot. You don’t need to be going 130 on public roads and if you were gonna track it this wouldn’t even be a question.

Definitely not wider in rear than M3. M340/440 staggered are 225/255 oem and M3/4 are 275/285 oem. So a big difference but yes I also vote staggered even at 255 the rear looks way better than the 225. Had the staggered set up on my 435ix and it looked great especially with some spacers. My M440 came with the square set up and will be eventually upgrading the wheels and tires more then likely summer michellins with a 235/265 set up on 19s.

I prefer the look of staggered. I had a G37 and a 435i with staggered wheels. I didn't realize when I bought my 2021 M340i it would have a square setup. Wonder if I can find the larger 792m wheels for the back.

I went from square on a 21 to staggered on the 24. The 24 feels significantly more stable and confidence inspiring. I would not accept the car with a square setup. Identical tires.
Ride is a touch stiffer on the staggered. |

Yes, that's correct when you order the 792M staggered summer tire option. When that option is checked, you get code 840 increased top speed limit automatically in your build. I posted in that other thread with the exact build sheet codes. The tires that come with the staggered 792Ms are Bridgestone runflats with BMW * designation (225/255)...they're definitely "grand touring" tires, but they aren't terrible up to 7-8/10s or so.
