If it's an M340i it will come with the big screen in the US. It's not option such as on a 330i.

Smile Another screen upgrade complete

The headunit will reboot, and the screen may turn on with black display (turn off the light and see if LCD Backlight is on) if so, it's a good Sign. Leave the car for an hour or two, then go back and check if it works, if not revert to the backup created previously, and do the same steps again.

Another trick if don't work, keep all parameters as explained above and change only this one
- CID_DISPLAY_RES_2021 : 1920_960
If it show a cropped image it's Ok. Leave it like this for few hours then go back and change it to 1920_720.

For me it didn't recognize the screen from the first trial. Let me know the outcome

I have completed a screen upgrade on my 128Ti as above.
I also had to set the resolution to 1920_960 first and then back to 1920_720.
I didn't wait any time between reboots after programming, just the initial settings, reboot, res change, reboot, change res back and reboot.
All working as it should.

As I have iDrive 6, for me it did not go to plan

To be honest in 85% of situations I don't notice the smaller screen. It's apparent only when there's a lot of sun and you see all the dead space.

One thing that helps with the smaller screen is if you have CarPlay, it really fills out the screen, and even on the 8.8", it's more than enough.

If I had iDrive 7 and 8.8" I would have upgraded, but for iDrive 6, it's good enough.

How do you strip the dash to get at the two bolts that hold the display in place?

Not sure if you have done this yet but it is quite easy with some trim tools. The part you need to remove to access the screen fixings is the surround as in the attached images.
I found it easiest putting a cloth against the current display screen and use a trim removal tool against the cloth at the top right slowly working my way around the edges. There are a couple of long metal pins that need to come out fairly straight so work it slowly a bit at a time rather than bending too much.
There is a cable connecting the ambient lighting at the left side but it can be left attached whilst you replace the screen.
Once out the screws for the screen are visible and hopefully the screen cable is loose enough to pull the screen forward and disconnect
.
Be careful disconnecting the cable with a small screwdriver to release the locking clip.
Fit the screen and slowly refit the trim.

Can you provide some details on how to do this? I'm trying to fix the resolution on AA on iDrive 8. Resolution looks low compared to CarPlay. Hardware and software is stock.

Thank you for providing the information.
Unfortunately this didn't work for me. I would like to make the upgrade in a G21 from 2020 with MGU Headunit with ID7.

I have tried it several times, but more than the backlight never worked on the new display. Has someone suffered the same problem and perhaps have a solution for this?

Hi,

I have a 2022 g22 that came from factory with the touchscreen deleted. Can anyone tell me the part number needed to replace my non touch screen with a touchscreen?

Thanks

So as it stands right now, upgrading from the 8.8” display to 10.25” is only possible on the MGU head units (ID8, ID7).

If you have the ENTRYNAV2 headunit, you are out of luck.

Part No. of the 8.8” Display: 6550 8717540 04
Part No. of the 10.25” Display: 6550 8798742 04

I do not know what the reason is, why it won’t work but if someone can offer an explanation, that would be great.
This is not accurate, as it turns out. The 10.25” MGU display will function with a NBTevo 6 head unit. BimmerTech has to do a fair bit of coding to make it work, but it will work. This post deals with the F8x series but it should still be informative. https://f80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2090329

Now that's very interesting. A thing to note is that there is a difference between ENTRYNAV2 and NBT Evo head units (the latter being more powerful). Additionally, as G30 was released with ID6 and then upgraded to ID7 in the LCI, during the transition period "scaler" displays were produced and those would be 10.25" but run at the lower resolution for ID6.

While on the G20 the ENTRYNAV2 (ID6) with 8.8" was the "basic" option and if you opted for a larger screen (Professional) you would also get an upgrade to the MGU (ID7) head unit with a 10.25" screen. So there was no NBTEvo with a larger screen ever available for the G20. Even the ID6 variant got replaced with ID7, 6 months after the model launch.

Update: I reached out to BimmerTech and the answer was that they couldn't code the 10.25" display on ID6 because the ENTRYNAV2 HU in the G20 cannot output the needed resolution.

This makes sense. If you switched out the HU for the NBTevo ID6 you could definitely make it work, as it can output the needed resolution. You can find used NBTevo HUs on ebay. I recommend Straight Six Auto Parts, which is a certified BMW dismantler. They sell very high quality used OEM parts from dismantled BMWs. Check out their ebay store: https://www.ebay.com/str/straightsixautoparts

Theoretically possible, the only challenge I see would be figuring out what to do with the CD reader, as the G20 series was never designed to have one in the HU, and anyone who wanted one, had to pay the dealer to install it in the glove box. While the G30 for example NBT Evo's all came with CD readers, they only phased them out in 2020 with the LCI and introduction of ID7.

For now, I've given up on this upgrade as either way you look at it's a big job. Hoping someone will come up with a modded screen -- though unlikely as only cars from late-2018 up to mid-2019 came with ID6.

Hi mate, if you see the backlight, then you're almost there. Try the trick I mentionned in my post, by changin resolution to a bigger one, then reverting back to the right one. If you need more assistance reach out to me in private.

Awesome! Thank you!!!

Planning to do this exact upgrade.
