Bronze powder in transmission oil! BMW G20 (2019)
According to the official BMW dealer/repairer, the transmission is considered service-free, so the previous owner never changed the transmission oil. The car has now reached 128,000 km. I recently took my G20 in for a transmission service, and they found some bronze powder inside. They recommended a costly gearbox repair, but the car runs smoothly with no issues or malfunctions. They also advised against changing the oil before addressing the repair.
However, after some research, I found that if there's only bronze powder, it could just be normal wear and tear. Some sources suggest that cleaning it out, changing the oil, and continuing to drive may be enough. Since I'm not very knowledgeable about cars, could someone help me figure out the best course of action? I've attached pictures of the transmission oil pan. Thanks! |
