Hardwiring Dashcams

I know I came across a couple posts on this; but the search function isn’t working and I can’t find what I’m looking for online.

Has anyone hardwired their dashcam to the fuse box in the front passenger footwell? Are the pre-LCIs different from the LCI?
If so, which fuses did you tap into? And did you run into any alerts about low voltage?

I initially planned to run a dashcam with a dedicated battery, but I really don’t need long parking surveillance. So I’d like to just tap into the front fuse and set the voltage cutoff high.

I ended up hardwiring a Viofo with the HK4 hardwire kit, and enabled parking mode, setting the voltage cutoff to 12.4 V.

I tapped into the front passenger fuse box.
For BATT, I used fuse #38 (empty)
For ACC, I used fuse #71 (occupied).
Grounded to the airbag bolt (disconnected battery to be safe).

No issues or warnings. Parking mode worked just fine. Set my parking mode to stop recording after 6 hours and it didn’t have any problem.

The following post is still helpful:

Okay. This worked fine for a few days. Dash cam would switch to parking mode after 15 or so mins of engine shut off, and then power off after 4 hours of recording (by setting).

Now.. no matter what I do, the dash cam stays fully powered on all the time. Fuse #71 is sending power. 24/7. Got battery management warning about “Malfunction while shutting down vehicle electronics when vehicle is stationary”.

Any suggestions? Fuse #71 should have turned off after some time. I don’t know why that would suddenly change to be a continuous line.

Okay, can confirm that #71 in the MY24 M340i stays on. I suspect there something about the ambient lighting that allows the fuse to stay alive if there is a draw. So the camera never switching to parking mode.

#59 is assigned to the mirror. This turns off relatively shortly after engine off. Works great. But due to the wiring kit design, I had to move to another fuse for batt.

I’ve chosen #25. I’m not quite sure what it does. The diagram says convertible top… but this is a G20 so I don’t know what it could be. There is a 20A fuse already there.
It works. But I’d like to know what that fuse supplies.

Okay… initially, this worked fine. ACC to #59, BATT to #25. Parking mode entered after engine off. Worked after a couple trips.

Now, the dash cam stays powered on. Hours after engine off, the dash cam is fully powered

EDIT:
So my initial thought was that the fuses are are lit all the time due to some electrical control stuff.
After a bit more testing, I believe it is the camera. For some reason, the camera is not acknowledging it should switch to parking mode. I’ve contacted Viofo to see what may be the issue.

So, after all this, I do think that my fuse selections are fine:

BATT: either F38 or F25
ACC: either F71 or F59. Also F74 is a viable option as well (tied to USB outlet)

May be better off running the separate battery pack to have separation from the car’s power resources. Low battery issues manifest themselves weirdly on our cars.

The issue was identified with the dash cam itself. The dashcam didn’t recognize that the ACC turned off and just kept power on. After resetting the dash cam and working with the manufacturer, the issue has been resolved.

Dash cam and radar detector function as expected and have had zero warnings or battery drain issue. All is good now.
