BMW doing their best to make their new car offering less and less attractive

You can just see the board meetings

1. I know let's put ridiculously large grills on all our cars. That will make sure we lose plenty of customers
2. Let's start insisting on an annual subscription for Apple CarPlay.

It's less expensive for customers who lease or keep their cars for less than 4 years.
Right now it costs $300 as an option.
That goes away and becomes standard - first year free, $160 for remaining two years of lease. Or $240 if you keep your car for 4 years.

I only use Car Play to get Spotify but with the new software update 07/2019.39 its available as part of the standard media config therefore I wont be subscribing when my free 12 months is finished.

1. Unfortunately the US and Chinese markets love big grilles so BMW is playing to it's major markets.

2. Yes, seems like BMW is nickel-and-diming customers over Apple Car Play, trouble is they know most customers get all wrapped up in the excitement of buying a new car and will sign just about anything.

CarPlay was just included with my VW (that I replaced the F30 340i with)... I understand the commercial drive for the whole drift towards things being subscription-based (and, say, with the Adobe Creative Cloud it makes a lot of sense when the one-off payments were eye-watering), but for things that ordinarily would be seen as a "one off" purchase, I think it's a bit much and I applaud VW for rolling into the vehicle price...

I am taking delivery of my M340i in December. My rep told me that due to the world shortage of semiconductors I’m lucky to be getting apple car play but for the same reason I can’t have wireless phone charging. Bummer
