Hi Everyone,
I have a ‘23 plate M340i Xdrive coming up to one year old now. When I bought it from BMW they said it’s service interval is every 2 years. I don’t really want to leave the same oil in for two years so I plan to change it. My question is, can I have another garage do it instead of BMW? Or will that void my warranty. The garage I enquired with (Not BMW but is a BMW ‘Specialist’) said they can update the iDrive service log but I’m just unsure whether this would affect my warranty or not. Maybe it’s best telling them not to update the iDrive? Or just not bother getting the oil changed at all? Any thoughts or opinions is appreciated |

I felt the same and I simply booked my car into my usual Bmw dealership and asked that they do and oil and filter change and to not reset the cbs
There was no issue at all and no pushback The next service will be done as part of the maintenance package that I bought at time of purchase In a years time I will repeat and get another oil serverice without a cbs reset The eu has this 2 year / 19000 mile service I get al which I personally think is unwise if the car is plannned to be kept |

wow! Im shocked at this service interval (compared to the US which some already feel is too long) but have no facts to say why it should be sooner.

I changed my oil in between the recommended intervals. I did it myself, but I spent a bit extra and got BMW oil and filter from BMW, so there is no issue with warranty.
I am in Australia and the service interval here is 30000kms / 2 years. Yes that's 18500miles between oil changes! Even the service manager at my BMW dealership said its too long, and said I should do some in between. But also told me best to get the oil and filter from them or they would do the extra oil changes for a fee (which wasn't too expensive). I still did them myself. I did them every 10000kms/ 6100miles. |
