I'm amazed at how many of you have favourited (??) commercial radio stations. I can't stand listening to radio with adverts. Even the (less frequent) ads on the BBC stations for their own content get on my t!ts.

1. Home address (ish)
2. Synchronise A/C
3. Journey data
4. Instrument cluster settings ( I keep changing the map in the central display area ON/OFF often)
5. Wi-Fi ON/OFF (with car's Wi-Fi ON I can't connect to my dash cam Wi-Fi)
6. Android Auto
7. Tyre pressure monitor
8. Control display OFF

I could do with couple more buttons. It's also a shame not all of the functions/options can be assigned to the shortcut buttons.

3. Browse albums (USB)
4. Settings
5. Engine sound
6. Sound (audio settings)
7. Synchronise a/c
8. Control display off

It's interesting that pretty much everything listed in this thread can be done by voice command but we do like our buttons don't we.

I'm surprised by how many have a button to turn off the control display. What am I missing? What's the benefit of that?

Maybe it is an age thing for me (I'm now over 50) but I far prefer a button to talking to a machine. Not least as with the iD7, voice is so bloody slow to respond. Maybe in iD8 things are quicker.

Apologies if you already know this but it might just help someone who doesn't.....

The trick is to say "Hey BMW do X" rather than say "Hey BMW", wait for the frauline to respond and then say "Do X"

I don't like to use the voice commands. No matter how good it is, its still slower than me just pressing the button. No delay, no music/podcast interruption while doing so. Simply better.
Another example. You are having a conversation with your passenger and then:
"Sorry mate, I have to stop our conversation, I need to ask my car to do something for me, won't be long mate, I promise".
It just not for me. Buttons for me all day every day.

I do use the voice stuff (e.g. “go home, shortest route”, or “sms Michael Smith, five minutes away”). But I don’t use the wake phrase - I prefer to use the steering wheel button.

But as said, a lot of people seem to "struggle" to fill the 8 up. I only put a couple of radio stations in, as I find it useful to reestablish DAB when it drops out (which it does an awful lot).
Ah, when I said "go home" I meant use set home as my destination in BMW navigation ... sounds like there might be an app called Go Home?

I use it at night as I find the bright screen distracting.

Same. Most important button assignment for me. Cut as many distractions as possible. Current speed in HUD is all I need 99% of the time at night.

On my previous gesture control equipped G30, I programmed the two fingered stabbing motion to switch the display on/off, which was even better. (and it was the only way in which I ever used gesture control for anything)

Had gesture control on my previous G32 and never, ever used it so wasn't bothered it wasn't on this one, but then neither is the idrive touch controller swipe function which I don't miss, I actually had it disabled on my previous car and it's also disabled on my wife's F22 running id6.
