Automatic recognition of tyres
Does anyone know how this works? Is it something a dealer needs to set up?
I have just changed from my winter to sumner tyres and was setting them up on the screen, I went for the manual option and selected the right size for the rears. The automatic option intrigued me. |

It does say that auto can only be programmed by a Service Partner. Maybe they blip barcodes and what not to set it (?)

I did get intrigued through by the Load Status though.
Seems 'Fully Loaded' means vroom vroom rather than 'carrying the In-Laws in the back'???

If you buy a 3 series in a Germany, they come supplied with a winter set up. This will be configured in the iDrive at PDI and then the car will determine between the two because it’s been told what to expect.

Mine quite often say 2.7/2.8 bar which is 39/40 psi. Michelin say pressures should be 36 psi.
Do you go with BMW or Michelin? At one stage, BMW recommended inflating to more than the max pressure on the tyre sidewall, so I've stuck with Michelin's recommendations.

Having said that, my door plate is completely at odds with what the iDrive recommends. The latter has very similar pressures whereas the door plate shows the rears a fair bit higher.

There does appear some logical reason for some unexpected pressure recommendations from the sample door plate. The use of XL tyres is part of it. Is the iDrive menu giving options for standard and/or XL tyres? |

That's the one.
51psi!!! My tyres say max of 45psi IIRC - it's late and dark so not going to check, but know 51 is over the max. Tyres are non-RFT Mich PS4S star marked
