Paint and trim scratches
Hi all,
This is my first 3 series having had two 520d’s previously, one saloon (SE) and one touring (Luxury) both with sophisto grey xirallic paint. I am washing the 3 series with the same soap and the same bobbly wash cloth used for the 5 series but find that the 3 series paint (mineral grey metallic) and trim are both prone to swirley scratches that the 5 Series didn’t have. This is how bad the trim looks, it’s worse than the paint. Is everyone else finding similar? Also how would you go about buffing it back to a nice shine without scratches? |

Looks like you will need some light cutting compound if you want to do it yourself or other option is to take it to a detailer.
I’m not seeing any issues. Just finished washing my G20 car so here is a photo of mine. I also previously had two 5 series back to back with no issues.

I tried some Meguiars scratchx on mine yesterday whilst polishing the car and it worked very well so give that a go :-) |

Update on mine - used the ScratchX some more and I’ve still got marring and swirls - albeit less of them.
I think this is just a common problem that will happen with use (as I say same on my F30) just due to the way this trim is finished. Can anyone recommend a better cutting compound to try? |

Here’s what I’ve used on previous cars.
Borrow or buy a DA orbital polisher and look on YouTube on how to use correctly with cutting compound. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=da...tal%20polisher And use this or similar compound... Takes out all swirls etc.
