Thanks all for the support so far, much better understanding than I had 24hrs ago.
I’m still keen to establish the differences between my MHEV Setup 330d and a comparative m340d.
What hardware differences there are or were BMW lazy in my favour and just detuned the performance gap between MHEV 330d and m340d?
Injectors?
HP fuel pump?
Cams?
TURBOS (now established there are definitely 2 onboard&#128513

I am with BMW for a sit and wait service Thursday so I think il bother the service department with questions associated too…

Finger crossed it’s a win and I have equivalent hardware to a m340d(wishful thinking though I suspect, but no one has said no yet )

However, the saving grace, I did get the Msport Plus pack incl LSD🤩

It was my understanding at the time that it was the fastest RWD Touring available with 6 cylinders; excluding the M3 Touring which was still a myth at the time of purchase and still a myth for us all minus influencer!

I am old fashioned, and will continue to support any manufacturers who are resolute in producing Inline 6 cylinder engines mated to RWD; a fast dying breed.

It is difficult to find detail on the B57 engine variants. There are turbo differences, plus the cooling side and with low pressure EGR control.

There were changes to pistons on the initial performance levels, but not able, as yet, to see clear definitions to whether the D57D30O2 and D57D30T2 follow the same changes, with reinforced pistons in the T2. I'd suspect changes to the injectors, but not finding any data.

Here's a good illustration of the M340d's Garrett turbo set up in the T2 engine, showing the additional VNT control for the smaller high pressure turbo. Low pressure turbo gets additional cooling.

Thanks Pete, very helpful.
I agree, detail is definitely not yet widely available, the illustration is good in demonstrating key differences in the setup.
Il speak with the BMW parts department tomorrow and see if they can be of any use to cross reference my chassis engine code to m340d and see what differences; or maybe that data won’t be forthcoming…

Doing some further searching,
I found this,

now I’m 99% it’s an exact match to my 330d engine, (can’t confirm until I get a pic of my engine code; and access is poor)
but it’s cited as m340d.
The turbo setup is exactly like mind and code is B57D3002

So did the B57D3002 get upgraded to the B57D30T2 in the later M340d?
And the B57D3001 from the early 330d non MHEV get uplifted to the B57D3002, but then detuned?

For current use, BMW data simply states; "The engines B57TU2 come in 2 performance classes, the B57D30O2 and the B57D30T2".

The B57D30O0 (single turbo) and B57D30T0 (two stage turbos) are again two performance versions of the earlier B57 engine.

What we need to know is the differences between the original B57 and the B37TU2. (Besides the emission classification).

Going to be harder to understand all the subtle changes, with the latest version, as now installed in the 7-series.

Have just discovered this thread after posting my own thread..

Can I be so cheeky to ask you knowledgeable commentators opinion from this thread, on -

..acquiring a 250Kw / 340bhp spare engine B57D30T2 sourced from Germany (New Old Stock) and what box ticking you would do to ensure on compatability with a UK M340D Touring (G21) 2021 ?
