I'm considering bimmercoding mine to start in sport+ ... right now it starts in sport individual, but I find myself using sport+ 90% of the time... anyone else do this? looks like I have to use expert mode (bimmercode) and set this value :: BDC_BODY3 > 7083 > PfFesMaster > FesPiaDefaultLastUserMode > 02 (Sport+) |

My m340i has some pops and burbles at low RPMs. it is a 2021. I had to break it in a few hundred miles first before I started hearing anything. I got it back in Oct.

Update:
Received my M340i today with the MPE. It has pops and burbles. About the same as my 2018 340i with the MPPSK. I cannot give an actuate comparison, as I'm trying to be good and keep the revs below 4K rpm during break in. I brought up the pops/burbles thing with the BMW genius. He said: "I know all about it. If you want the pops and burbles in the 2021 you need the MPE. Standard exhaust: no luck."

I'm 2.5 weeks in, 1300 miles. The car came with MPE initially, so it must have broken in by now. The exhaust sounds great, totally worth it. I haven't done side-by-side comparison to a 2019/2020 so can only judge based of videos. 2021 has less pops and burbles but feels like once broken in, it's louder and more of them. MPE was definitely a great choice, not sure if you can hear anything without it.
When cold, pops are noticeably louder even on low rpms. 3K rpms has most of the pops, but I'm still testing it. If you hit a spot around 5K, it sometimes bangs damn loud. Seems just as loud as on this video below, maybe with a little less of pops, but I haven't been redlining like this guy yet. Will keep everyone posted. |

Yeah so i work at BMW and after driving the M440 and M340 with stock exhaust. Car has pops and bangs. they aren't as loud as 20's but yes it does still have them. The only thing i haven't noticed are the upshift bangs. The M340 and M440 are amazing cars. i honestly intend on getting rid of my 21 m340 once some programs come out for the M3. Now there really isn't a break in period for the M340 needed

Received my M340i a week ago in South Africa (I think we only got 5 in total off the ship from Bremerhaven) - it is the last of the MY2020 production from Munich with build week being end of September, just before mild hybrid switch over.
Can confirm it pops and crackles like crazy. Turns heads. Intoxicating ... Will upload video. |

I just took delivery of my Mexico built m340i last week. Regular exhaust. Plenty of pops and burbles. I was expecting much worse and was pleasantly surprised. My Wife has already asked me why it has to be so loud, so that makes me happy.
Will post videos if I can. Especially noticeable on cold start in sport plus. |

Video is not mine, I assume this might be 2020. Mine is similar with MPE, but I feel like less of those really loud bangs, they are usually around 5K but very inconsistent. I would rather have less pops but louder ones.

If I just hit the sport button (dash would say sports plus) on my 2021 then i can't hear any pops/burbles at all.
If I go into sport individual, and ensure engine is in sports +, then I get pops and burbles (although not a ton). It's hard to compare because I have a M2C with an akrapovic exhaust, so my m2 cracks and pops really, really loudly. So I think if I got the MPE then the pops will be louder than they are now but it's definitely not a constant pop and burble time scenario like with the M2. In summary, I have better luck in Sport individual where I can put the engine in sports + than when in regular sports plus.

Hi guys. I am from Ukraine. I have m340i manufactured in September 2020. It counts 2021? Pops/burbles practically absent.
And main question do I have on 48 volt electric engine? |

If you have the button to disable auto start/stop then you have a 2020, but it definitely wasn't built last week of September.

I just took delivery of two vehicles. 21 X4 M40 and a build date October 2020, 2021 M440i Initially they both sounded awesome. The G22 needed an update and I obliged. Now it barely pops and bangs. The X4 is much louder.
with 7.2020 they updated the sound design in i drive seven. I wonder if that has something to do with that. Either way it is disappointing. Also. with the G20/G22 Level 1, doesn't it already come with the M Performance Exhaust?

Coming from a m240 with a midpipe, this is very disappointing to read about. Adding the midpipe to my 240 brought tons of pops and bangs and truly made the car significantly more enjoyable. I was just about to order a 340 but now I'm contemplating whether or not I should. The MPE sounds good but still pretty reserved in noise level based on the videos I've seen. Decisions decisions......

No. The M Performance Exhaust is a port or dealer installed option. It should be standard in my opinion, but it may be a little too loud for some people.

People,
My M340 came in today with the M Performance Exhaust. I can confirm the exhaust is so worth it. It pops and crackles loud. The tone is deeper.
