Hmmm. That doesn't sound promising. I pick my 2021 up on Monday. Got the MPE so there'd be some added life to it.

I'll keep everyone posted.

I received mine a month ago. Same set up with the MPE. You'll be plenty happy.

I have 1800 miles and after doing some hard pulls and hard driving in the hills I noticed it was burbling and popping more than I've heard it before. Not sure if it needs to break in or warm up but it was definitely sounding nice.

Is that with or without the MPE?

Just picked up my M340xi on Saturday with the MPE. It sounds perfect to my ears. Yeah the cold start is delicious but not obnoxious (can't wait until the neighbors passive aggressively let me know).

It so good I let the engine note be my music driving into work and the rev-matching during downshift makes me smile.

If you like your car with a little soul, I'd get the MPE. But as always, go find one before ordering to see if it fits your comfort level.

Anyway, good stuff and I wholeheartedly recommend it.

Can someone advise what MPE stands for? I have a 2018 340i with then M performance exhaust and sound package installed and love it. I was hoping to do the same thing on a 2021 M340i. I just googled and looks like it stands for M Perf Exhaust. I am assuming this can be ordered through the dealer.

In your current car the power and sound package is a slight tune and better sounding exhaust.

In the new M340 it's just a better sounding exhaust. There is no power bump tune available on the current generation.

Hi,
Just curious since I just put in an order for my custom built m340 but didn’t see any option to add the MPE. Did you guys tell your CA to add it on your build or how did you go about adding it?

Yea man, hit up your CA. It won’t appear as an option on your build sheet since it’s a port installed option.

I heard a 2021 with an MPE and without it...and IMO felt it was a must to build my m340 with the MPE.

Ok cool, thanks for the info.

Would you say the 21 with the MPE sounds more like the 20 stock with no MPE? Been trying to find videos on YouTube but all I find is the MPE on 2020 nothing for 21.

Also how much did your dealer charge to add the MPE?

I had MPE port installed on my 2021 (and did plenty of port installed on previous orders)

First of all... a port installed option WILL show up on your build sheet. It has an msrp and invoice price. Whatever you negotiate off msrp should apply to the port installed option. It is treated exactly the same as a factory option it just happens to be installed at port. That includes full warranty coverage and it will appear on your sticker.

Second.... the MPE is louder and deeper than the stock exhaust. It sounds the same whether it's on a 2020 or a 2021. The part numbers for the two exhausts, stock or MPE are the exact same 2020 or 2021. Foot to the floor there is no difference in the two systems, anyone claiming otherwise is placebo. BMW did appear to adjust 2 software controlled situational effects from 2020 to 2021.
1) Cold start: 2021 software has reduced flap opening for less volume. The MPE remedies and improves on this, the overall volume is slightly higher than the 2020 from the freer flow muffler and is deeper.
2) pops, bangs, burbles: these occurrences are reduced in the software for 2021. MPE is just an axle back so it will amplify those that remain. Whether one wants more or less bangs is a personal taste. I greatly prefer the 2021 as it sounds more natural. I previously had a 440 with the power and sound kit which was the inspiration for the 2020 tune. To me while the exhaust overall sounded great, the the pops and bangs were overdone and unnatural in a way that no real engine without software forcing them could emulate. (The pops and bangs concept is to simulate a high strung overcammed performance motor that will overrun on abrupt changes in throttle and dump excess fuel into the exhaust. These are literally impossible without software forcing them on a modern direct injection motor) Even the M cars don't have the pops and bangs as overdone as the 2020 m340 and mppsk equip 2016-2020 b58 f3x cars did.

I meant to say MPE is not something that appears or is available on bmwusa.com build. The msrp for the MPE is $2k, which like xlover said, gets added onto the msrp of the vehicle.

I also like the way the 2021 sounds as it isn’t too excessive and I like the burbles it makes on the down shift however I do wish they were a little louder hopefully the MPE does the trick. I was able to call my CA today and have it added, luckily my car was still in “scheduled for production”.

Yes thank you I had no clue that could be done before reading this forum for that reason since the MPE didn’t appear on the website, luckily I was able to contact my CA to have it added.

Yea, I did the same, added the MPE a week after I put my order in.

btw, based on your handle, I assume you’re in NY (I’m in NJ) Do you know your production date? Our cars could quite possibly end up on the same ship.

I actually ordered my car in jersey from park ave so yes they might end up on the same ship. I don’t know the date I actually forgot to ask, I’m going to reach out tomorrow to find out. Hopefully soon, do you know yours?

Yea, I ended up getting mine in PA, but the the port of delivery is NYCPOA.

My production date is February 4th, so thinking late Feb, early March delivery.🤞🏼

Btw, you can call the BMW hotline to get your production date.

In my opinion the E-Boost the mild hybrid provides is worth the exhaust trade-off.

What is the mild hybrid that you are referencing? Is this something on the M340i?
