Hi guys,

Hope everybody's doing well.

Took delivery today of my 21' M340i xDrive MHEV

While looking for winter wheels, I contacted a tyre dealer that stated that due to xDrive, I had to use only certified tyres, the ones with the star marking.
This means runflat, which I want to avoid, and no Michelin which are my preference.
BMW Genius today said that there was no obligation to use starred tyres, just to obey the dimensions on certificate of conformity.
Ever heard this?

As for the rims, it appears that both type shop and BMW insist on the fact to follow the certificate. So for 225/45 R18 tyres square, it means rims of 7.5J x 18 ET25.
Looks several folks here have wheels not strictly following it, what did your dealer said about conformity please?

Thank you!

You don't need certified star tyres. As long as the size is correct on all rims, you'll be fine. Only thing is tread depth should be same/similar. There's a tiny variation, after which it can affect your car's differential.

Thank you.
Can the tread depth be easily found?
Certified tyre in 225/45 R18 is Continental TS860S SSR 95V.
My target is Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 same characteristics except runflat.

I was finally able to get these mounted this past weekend. Please don't mind the filth or the tape residue on the tires. I need to get the damned thing washed but it's such a pain in the ass to do here.

New “winter” wheels...

BBS XR 18x8
Pilot Sport A/S 3+ 225/45-18

All seasons will be more than adequate here - the only reason I went with this setup is because the car came with a 19" staggered summer tire setup (791M). While there's no snow to speak of, driving around hockey pucks on wet bricks doesn't sound like much fun.

This should do the trick.

Since we have some snowy winters here in Sweden I went with some proper, Nokia's Hakkapeliitta R3 for my winter setup. And because I'm going for 20" OZ wheels for my summer setup, the old 18" ones will suffice for the dark months of the year :-)

Default is indeed 18 inches in most EU countries, but it’s very common to go for 19 inches as summer wheels.
For winter tires, my certificate allows 17 or 18 inches only.

I finally went for AEZ Tioga Titan in 18” (matches certificate exactly) along with Continental Wintercontact TS860S 225/45R18 95V SSR with the BMW star, square configuration.

Winter setup, bought the 796m from Bmwpartpros and they offered free shipping. Overall super happy with these rims, and they are amazing looking in matte black.

Standard in the USA is also 18" on the 2021 models and if memory serves me right, was also standard on the 2020s.
Fortunately, we have no "certificate" requirements. Depending upon the state we live in, there may be some rules imposed (such as tires and wheels can't protrude past the outer edge of the fender - at least in my state), but otherwise we can use any wheel/tire that fits. For a winter tire/wheel I would definitely use something smaller than 19".

Bought a wheel and tore package from tire rack I had installed on my G20 at delivery yesterday. You can only go 19s with the cooling and tire package.

I ran sottozeros on my F30, but this less expensive Vredstein tire had great reviews, and was less expensive.

Ordred them from my dealer. Took 4 business days to arrive. $2,4xx out the door, including dealer installation and storing the off-season tires. I've only driven on them for about 25 miles, but the ride quality is improved. Especially with temps in the 50's today, the P4S's were getting hard. Less crashy over bumps, and feels just as responsive in normal driving. Smooth and quiet at 75+. I'm very happy with the results.

Before (yesterday), 19" 792M with Summer Michelin PS4S...

Front...

After, 18" 796M with Pirelli Sottozero...

Front rotors don't look much different than with the 19's. Calipers are close but they're no tighter than with the 792M's.
I have a M440i on order with the cooling package and 19" wheels. I was thinking of buying the same wheels you have from BMW. I just wanted to confirm you have the larger 374mm front rotors. Did you have the option of buying the Pirelli's? In Canada, the tire is a Blizzak LM-001 which I understand is not that great a tire.

Just installed 795m wheels and tire set and my TPMS monitor is going off. What is the correct psi for the front and rear?

Did you swap sensors or new sensors?

Recommended tpms is on your driver door sill

I have a 2021 340i with summer tires. I bought a set of 790M 18" take-off rims that I plan to use in the winter.

1) Should I go with winter/snow or all-seasons tires? I don't plan to drive aggressively in the winter. I live in the mid-Atlantic area and am leaning towards the all-seasons for versatility.

2) Should I square the wheels so I can rotate and extend the life of the tires. These are my back-up tires so I can sacrifice some performance.

3) If I squared, what is the ideal tire size should I go with? The tires on the wheels right now are 255/40/18 (8.5Jx18 ET40) and 225/45R18 (7.5Jx18 ET25). Do I need to use spacers?

I have a M340i xDrive in order and I loved OPs wheels. I don't think I want to do 19" wheels for winter and was trying to find the MSW Type 73 in 18" but you have to get a different color and 28 offset instead of 30. Thoughts on going this route? I could get the wheels and 225/45R18 tires for about $1700 shipped. I don't know when my car will be here but I feel like in the past tires and wheels would start getting sold out in Nov/Dec. Any help would be appreciated!

I have a set of Audi S5 B9 19" winter wheels package.

5x112 66.56 hub offset 35mm with 255/35/19.... would this fit on M340i G20? It looks to me as yes even if the car will look if it had 8mm spacers...

A difference in offset of -2 mm (pushed away from car) will be fine and actually better. If tire rack lists the wheel as compatible then I assume brake clearance is fine too. I'm about to install mine for 3rd season and they've been great.

Enkei & Blizzak

Wheels: 18x8 Enkei Raijin (squared)
Tires: 225/45 Blizzak WS90
Spacers: 13mm Front/15mm Rear

Not a fan of the center caps that came with these wheels so I left them off, and my stock ones don't fit...so, ordered some new ones.
