There's so much I don't like about this vehicle, it's a fun challenge to try and find things I do actually like. What I came up with:
1. I like the roofline and the overall side profile. The cab rearward design is interesting for an EV though. I wonder what's under that hood. 2. The binnacle-less 'gauge cluster'/screen is cool if it actually is usable in the real world. The rest is just disappointing. Just as well because my usage patterns, and living situation wouldn't allow me to own an EV even if I wanted one.

I couldn't help think about BMW's 3 Series production being pushed off to Mexico to make room for this in Munich.

It looks spectacular to me. It is a beautiful car in the tradition of BMW. With the long hood and tunnel bump in the cabin, it looks like the electric motor is definitely in the car's front, unlike Tesla. My 540ix comes off the lease on April 27. Unfortunately, BMW does not have any good options for me so after 6 BMW 5ers I am off to the Tesla 3. After a great start, BMW was slow to move to electrification which is clearly the future.

As an aside, this car somehow looks better in video/live pics than the press pics. Usually it's the other way around. Not saying I like it, but surprised it somehow looked a little better in the video. In the end, it's teetering a fine line. If this is 85% or so of production, that last 15% could really make or break it. |

Definitely the best interpretation of the vertical grills yet, still not a looker but better. If this is a sedan though, I would wait for a hatch of sorts.

It won't have a frunk btw, according to one of the german-languague car magazine walk-around videos on youtube.
This /could/ mean that the hood won't open at all (and there won't be a need for the 4er hoodline), but they did not mention that in particular, just that the CLAR architecture did not leave place for a frunk and that "all the electronics" would be in there. |

I like it.
First thing I'd do is change those really ugly wheels. As an EV it's one of the best interiors I've seen. The comments on getting a model 3 over this is a personal preference. However the interior quality will be night and day. I've been in the Tesla model 3 and it's very nice looking on the inside but the quality will not be like this. On a side note the exterior of the model 3 is boring. You have to be in it to really appreciate the model 3. The production version will lose a lot of the cool features like that amazing glass roof most likely. That will be costly if it's done like that in production. Let's see what it turns out looking like. Looks like it has a decent amount of rear room. Which is a great thing. Finally the kidney in front is not bad. I still wish it was smaller but this one actually looks good on this car. Good job BMW

"An estimated range of 270 miles"
What happened to the goal of 300+ miles on the EPA? And this is just an estimate, meaning by production it could be even lower (similar to the Taycan). Pricing is gonna have to be good, because a Model 3 Performance w/ 300 miles of range can be had at the same price as a loaded 330i at $58k, and thats getting the new Track V2 Software which allows you to change the power ratio completely, not to mention superchargers exist for Tesla. Who knows what else Tesla will do by the time the i4 comes out?

BMW has lost it...I remember staring at the E92 3-series coupe for a whole day when it was announced, and not finding a single flaw. Gone are those days.
This looks like the much-maligned 3-series GT with an even uglier front.

Surprised no one has mentioned it, but the i4 also includes the new logo for BMW and it looks to be official since its on the BMW website and will possibly go onto other cars in the future

Hmm.. let's see.
Like: 1. It's all electric 2. At least they tried something new 3. The seat materials look nice. I really hate the current leather / vinyl shit. 4. Open and airy Don't like 1. The grill. Goddamn I was hoping the backlash would make them reconsider but no. They are going all out stupid on it. 2. Overall the car looks a bit too "chunky." Was hoping for something a bit more sleek like the Taycan 3. The trunk. Bangle Butt 2.0 anyone? 4. Range is not that encouraging for such a large vehicle. I guess they don't have the same level of energy management and energy density that Tesla do in the Model 3. 5. Badge. Not liking the new clear design. It just blends in with the body colour. From a distance the brand looks diminished instead of distinguishing. |
