I removed the JB4 yesterday since my car is due for an oil change in a few hundred miles and I thought I'd drive it around in stock form to clear out any error codes, if any (none that any of my code readers could pick up but still).
I cannot appreciate the JB4 more. Without it, the car feels lifeless. Till around 2-2.5k RPMs, it feels similar. But with a JB4, after that, the car wakes up and flies. Without it, it's almost very linear. I'm also positive my car pops and crackles more with the JB4 installed (I could be wrong though). And with E30 along with the jb4, the car is a whole new beast! I can't wait to get the oil change done and reinstall the JB4 and add a splash of E85 too. I also realized how much the weather affects performance. My car felt so much faster in winter than it does now with >90°F temps. I know people run stage 1 and stage 2 tunes on their 330is here but from what I've read, the performance isn't all that different. My car does a consistent 4.7-4.8s 0-60 with LC and 5.4-5.6s 0-60 going WOT. This is with no other mods other than a JB4 on map 3 and E20-E30. The only place a tune shines is the way it delivers power. Tunes will feel like the car has OEM+ power whereas a JB4 makes it feel like a tuned boosted car (power kicking in after certain RPMs). I haven't dynod my car but on virtual dyno, I get 270-275whp. I know it isn't perfect but that's all I have access to right now. TL;DR - JB4 definitely works. I have zero regrets. I'll only get a tune if there's a noticeable difference in power compared to the JB4.

Reinstalled my JB4 yesterday after driving the car around in stock form for a week or so. I also filled her up with roughly E30 (probably less). She has changed, for the better. Car pulls hard.
I've ordered a dragy box and will post numbers once I get it. I will also be comparing the numbers from the same JB4 log to see how different/similar they are (right now, JB4 connect is my go to for a before and after comparison). Excited!!

JB4 map 3, E30 fuel, no other mods. Only had time to do one run since I had to head home.
There was a difference of 0.32s between the JB4 connect app and Dragy (JB4 app said 4.5s) to 60mph and 1.5s (JB4 log says 10.875s) to 100mph.

It’s been a while since I updated this thread.
I’ve been running the JB4 for a few months now and I still love it to bits. I am on a custom map 6 sent by Knifeedge2k1. He has been of immense help, reading my logs and sending me revised boost values for my car. Another member that has helped me a lot is Turboh on N54tech (I hope I’ve tagged the right person on here). Shout out to him too! The latest map 6 feels really nice. Better than map 3 that I was running and much better than map 4 (I installed an EWG cable too a couple of days back). WOT runs are faster. I get wheelspins in the wet or when it’s slippery. Or even when there is a hint of gravel (didn’t have wheelspins before). It’s an absolute hoot to drive now. And this is only with a JB4 and some E85 added to 93oct fuel. I did some “dyno” logs on Virtual dyno. Almost back to back runs except for a cool off period. On map 0 (stock map), my car apparently put out 225whp and 246wlbft. On map 6 (custom map), those figures jumped to a best of 290whp and 327wlbft (average of 3 runs on the same day with a cool off period of 5 minutes was 285/320). Not bad at all for a 2.0 4 banger. Also, best quarter mile time (dragy verified) is 13.15s. I always trap 104/105MPH and it has always been around 13.2s so far. The 62-124MPH pull is at around 14s now (best of 13.5s and worst was 14.8s). All numbers (dragy) are significantly better than stock, proving that the JB4 works.

Fuel ratio - 6.1 gallons 93oct and 1.9 gallons E85 for a total of roughly 8 gallons each time. I don't do a full tank nowadays to reduce weight as much as possible I used to do 3.5 gallons E85 and rest 93oct for a full tank before.

I have been following your reviews on JB+ to JB4, and just pulled the trigger on JB4 Some questions to you: - do you have installation instruction on JB4 including "fishing" the OBD2 cable through door jam? - why do you need to connect OBD2 anyway? I thought JB4 only need to plug into the TMAP sensor? - I notice you put some E85 to the mix, isn't it corrosive and bad for the fuel system? |

Dragy-ed my car a few times, even though the tires are brand new (still less than 100 miles on them). Did 4 LC runs on two different days. Times obtained were all between 13.12s and 13.16s. Without LC and with TC on, times were between 13.49 and 13.53s. Trap speed is in the 105-106MPH range (stock, it is 99-100MPH I believe). I've posted a screenshot in another thread. I can't seem to find it on my phone right now but will attach below soon.
Car performs great and pulls well for a 2.0. It feels very smooth too (car doesn't feel stressed at all). Quote:

I've run E30 in my A4 for 3 years (car with 21k miles as mentioned above) and it had zero issues. I know of many people running E30 mixes on the F/G chassis cars and have had no issues.

I don't think there's a difference between a 2020 and 2021 330i. There's no mild hybrid system (I believe only the M340i has it). So it shouldn't matter if it's a '20 or '21.

The BT module/data cable is used for map switching, obtaining logs etc on the JB4 app. The OBD2 cable has to be plugged in. It's not a one time thing. I remember reading somewhere that the JB4 will work without the OBD2 cable but then, it defaults to map 1 without it. To run other maps, it has to be plugged in. I could be wrong. I read this a long time ago. I haven't tried running it without it plugged in since I don't plug in a reader into the port all the time. When I need to plug in my enet cable, I unplug the JB4 cable as needed.

I did some dragy runs with map 0 (to see how the car is, stock). The reduction in performance is obvious (map 0 supposedly means JB4 is disabled). Dragy numbers below (all valid runs (slope >-1%)).
Fuel - 93 octane (no E85 this time - I waited till range showed 0 miles left to fill up and drain as much E25 as possible) Temps - 30°F Half tank of fuel, no weight reduction. Launch control (2 runs - slight uphill from around middle of the runs): 1. 0-60 - 5.96s, 6.05s 2. 1/4th mile - 14.23s @ 97.28mph (and another run a while back at 14.3s @ 96.94mph) 3. 62-124mph - 20.05s WOT (traction on): 1. 0-60 - 6.28s Granted roads were a bit slippery and it was freezing. But I think I probably have the slowest stock G20 330i on the planet! I'll do a few more runs in the coming days since the fuel stations around me ran out of E85 and I switched to map 0 till E85 is available.

Another thing is. The road I do my tests on has an upward incline. Even though dragy says it's downwards!!! That could be why my 62-124 run is real slow because the incline is noticeably upwards (when I used my dragy while climbing up a steep bridge, dragy said slope was -3%!!)

Quarter mile - 14.4s @ (backed off at the end since it was skittish because of the ice on the road) So basically with the custom map 6, my car shaved off a little over a second to the quarter mile and 7s from the 62-124mph times!!! 0-100 was also improved by around 4s and 0-70 by more than 1s!!! Trap speed at the quarter mile increased by 10mph. I wonder if my car has a 320i engine....
