How to: Adding Luggage Hooks in Boot / Trunk

Thought this would be useful for those without extended storage and the grocery bag hooks -

Part number:51477258562.

Thankfully the bracket used already has the hole in place, so its a simple DIY job of drilling a small hole in the boot carpet. Step by step:

For the N/S hook

1) Remove the two clips shown below -

2) Then remove the clip which holds the carpet bracket to the top of the boot. After this you can pull back the carpet around the boot hinge rubber weather seals -

3) This reveals the otherside of the bracket where you can easily see the hole designed for use with the luggage hook -

4) For simplicity, I then used a self tapping screw to mark up where I need to drill into the carpet -

5) Then drill through the carpet to make the hole large enough to accomodate the boot hook -

6) Push the hook in, then putting it back together is simply the reverse of the above -

I'm going to investigate the offside bracket as well and I expect it will be possible to install a second hook.

Looking good....

There was an alternative solution thread a while ago which I followed.
This was using VW/Audi type hooks available from eBay.

Yes saw that but preferred to keep it OEM rather than DIY screw it through the metal frame.

Great write up!

Did they remove the hooks in the 2021 models? Or do you guys in the UK not get them? My 2020 G20 in America has it. Which is why I'm asking.

My 330e has the extended storage pack but no hooks I assume because it’s a hybrid the boot is very shallow. I’m in the UK and the demo 320D I had for a week had the hooks.

It's part of the optional extended storage pack in the UK on the G20. I believe the G21 gets them now as standard.

Interesting that the talk is of hooks as I only have a singular hook.

Amos91 ,

Great write up!

Have you had a chance to check out the other side -- driver's side for you, passenger here in US?

I have one hook, but have had several occasions needed a second

Thanks

Both sides are exactly the same. Just using a small flat screwdriver does.the job. Pop opt the middle plastic part and replace it with the hook. Good luck.

Thank you very much for your info, I have just received my hook today and already install it. I went for your tutorial step-by-step and did it. If I would go again for a new hook installation, I would go for a strong needle with handle to "look" for that hole through the lining carpet (you can judge for yourself looking at driver side factory installed hook about approximate position). Than I would drill the lateral carpet lining from trunk compartment side and install the hook. This because I found very hard to bend the lining even though all the securing clips around were out...

Thanks for this, did it on mine yesterday. I had the hooks but had put them each side replacing the clips right by the boot lid. This is much better, I did one side as per the “how to” them measured it and did the other side insitue.
