New OTA update and tune

Has anyone pushed through this new 11.xx update with a tune? If you did, did it mess with your DME, your tune, or any coding you had done?

Some people have said that their DMEs got locked after updating via OTA/the dealer.

Any real life experience out there? I know there’s gotta be people out there making power with some toons....come on people

There's plenty out there already but what are you looking for? I'm new to this platform in general, but here's what I can tell you that I've found searching.

The B58 for both the G20/21 and Supra A91's (more or less same motor and components) in the last few months have been getting updates from dealers that are affectively locking the DME's, and any newer deliveries just come that way essentially. Initially, it just required that they be bench unlocked - some can be. However the latest ones, including myself, cannot be tuned remotely or bench unlocked (ie shipped to tuner). At least not right now. It has been this way for awhile.

Anyone feel free to chime in to clear any of that up, but that is the current status.

Yes - there's people making power via 'toons', especially the early to mid-late 2020 models out there. For those that don't have that option right now, it looks like plug and play solutions are still good to use, JB+/JB4 and RaceChip to name a couple. No ECU unlocks required for that.

Generally any update done by the dealers may mess w/ a tune and for sure clear any coding that was done. Any quick search will show you that's fairly common.

My update crashed and I was unable to start my car. Flashed back to stock, towed it to dealer, they fixed it, dme still unlocked.

A buddy of mines updated successfully but reverse his tune. Dme unlocked.

Yah I’ve seen plenty of issues with previous OTA updates, and the newer M340i and Supra DMEs being locked with no solution yet, just seeing people’s experience with this current update on earlier models with flash tuned. I had my DME bench unlocked and tuned, no not trying to go back to square 1, and the piggyback solutions are garbage in my experience. Well I guess I will keep keep pushing off the update and avoid the dealer like the plague

Yeah unfortunately I’m in the same boat. I need an update but since I’m tuned I don’t want to do it since it will lock the DME. So it’s a choice of keeping my tune vs. gain additional functionality. I’m going with keeping my tune.

Honestly there is nothing that I’m dying for in this update....In fact I think the car is perfect as is, and would not feel like I’m missing out if I never get an update moving forward

Problem is when I got the last update, 3/2020, I lost the climate rules and all my apps and now I can’t add things like the camera recorder. The only way to fix it is a new update and I didn’t realize this until after my bench unlock and tune.

I never use any of that stuff, so I guess it’s not that big of a deal for me. As long as the power output is there I’m happy

Interesting because something like this happened to me as well. Except they had to replace a module twice and I had to wait 5 weeks before I got my car back.

I am one of the 2021 models that have a locked DME with no solution to tune as of yet.

Patiently waiting... and not updating DME during wait.

Have MP tune via OBD for 2020 M340i (late 2019 build) where updated OTA to 7/2020.54 a few weeks ago. While OTA update did reset my custom coding (which I coded back), didn’t think it would also overwrite and remove the existing MP tune. But don’t know how to confirm if it did or not.

Just sent email to MP to ask if flash might have been removed via OTA update and if need to re-flash tune or no. Whether via OBD or if need to send DME now if OTA locked it. I haven’t seen any specific posts yet as to needing to re-flash MP tune with OTA updates. Will let you know if so or no.

Did your sport displays (hp and tq) revert back to the factory settings?

Just checked where shows 400 hp / 400 tq. I don’t use sport displays - does it automatically show something greater if flashed?

Yah MP has those figures changed to 560/560....doesn’t necessarily mean the actual tune was affected tho. Would prob need to hook up to MFlasher and have Alex take a look at the DME. Shoot him an email and see if would be willing to do that

I would be shocked if it didn’t revert back to factory tune. Last time I talked to Alex about getting a firmware update to fix some of my issues he said if I took it in for a firmware update it would erase the tune and my DME would be locked again so I would have to ship my DME to him again. As a result, I’m not going to get any more firmware updates. Good luck.

They all are locked until unlocked. Try to flash it to verify
