This seems completely normal as I've encountered this 2 times already within the last 3,750 miles.

The first time came on at around 1,500 miles.
The second time was at about 3,500 miles.

I just bought a case of 12 quarts of oil from ECS because I know I'll be needing a quart every 2 months or so..

This is most likely not a normal symptom. Take it to the dealer as soon as possible.

I don't think this is normal, car should not need oil every 2-3k

Not good, you'll never hear of this on a Lexus ever. I hope i don't have these issues on my car in the future. If car was over 150k miles I could understand needing oil prematurely but this is unacceptable for a new car.

This was a known issue with my 2013 650i. My dealer just always gave me free oil and I kept it in my trunk to use when needed. They told me that those turbos were known to burn through oil. Maybe it's the same with this engine. Thanks for mentioning this, it's nice to know what to expect.

I’ve got over 5K miles and never received that warning. I changed oil at 1K as suggested by my service manager. Had my car for 2 1/2 months.
On another note, took car in for what I thought was a software issue.
Received a call 30 minuets later asking if I’ve had problem starting car. I responded no, my service Mgr said my key won’t start car.
They’ve had car a week and found out the BDU unit had to be replaced. Had to fly in from east coast.
Maybe tomorrow if they can get the programming to load properly.

I got the the warning that my M340 was low last night. It just hit 3k. I put oil in shortly after the warning and the level checked out as good.

This morning in traffic I was smelling oil burning. I opened my hood when I got to work and I've definitely got some kind of smell going on. Exhaust smells fine. Engine bay smells like hot plastic/oil. No smoke.

My 2016 435i needed a quart at around 5k and never needed another after that. My M340i just crossed 5k and it just asked for a quart of oil.

Maybe this is normal for the break-in period? Maybe the oil from the factory is different? If I ever needed to add more than 1 quart between oil changes I would suspect that there's something wrong.

Lol @ comparing this to a lexus. Lexus engines are ok and reliable , but nothing close to BMWs engine tech , smoothness and output.

I would be worried if its still eating this much oil after the first oil change. At this point i would write it off to "breaking in "

Who are you again? I have had prior BMW's and none needed oil at such low miles. Lexus V8 high performance engines, granted NA and no matter how hard an ISF/RCF/GSF/LC are driven they don't use oil prematurely.

Funny you mention smooth, Lexus makes some of the smoothest engines on the planet, besides smooth is boring. An ES350/LS460 is smooth but extremely boring cars to drive.

7K KM, Did the correct break in procedure, never push the car hard until it warmed up and did a oil change at 3500KM, Thing has been at Max line and has not moved... Even after spirited driving sessions.. so definitely something wrong I would get it checked out

Iam just a nice friendly guy. And bingo at why you shouldn't compare oil consumption between NA and turbo vehicles .

Nevertheless , hope your oil consumption stays below the BMWs allowed spec ... there is a good bulletin on this.

Mine asked for oil around 4500 miles. Just took it to the dealer and it was topped off. iirc, my 340i did the same thing after 3-4K miles as well.

If it's a one time thing that's ok, probably we could all just change out the factory oil early. I will wait and see, mine just hit 2k miles, keeping fingers crossed. I have not used LC yet either. I hear LC puts lots of stress on the drive-train.

Update: currently sitting at 4041 miles and I have had the 2nd low oil warning come on as of yesterday evening (approx. at 4035 mi).

Going to try to bring it in today as this should not be burning through a majority of the oil every 2000 miles.
