Deposit down on (new to me) M440i
After much research and deliberation, today I put down the deposit for an M440i the dealership has for sale (one of the managers’ car, having done around 5,500 miles) with all the spec I wanted.
This will be my first BMW. My current car is a Jaguar XE P250 (petrol auto, 247hp), which is very good and I do love, but I wanted something more sporty (without going all the way to a full-fat M). Prior to that I had Mazda 6 (manual, diesel). The bits I have on my Jaguar XE that I won’t have on the M440i:
Should pick it up middle of next week (exact collection TBC)! |

It will be a huge step up on performance, and a lovely thing. Good choice sir.

Just completed a 280 mike trip to the lakes at an average of 44.2 mpg and standard motorway speeds; amazing! Only managed 30 mpg in my X3 M 40i.

I do like the lines of the M440i and really don't mind the grille either.

Thanks all - yep, I’ve read good things about the B58 both in terms of feel, performance and economy, and from what I gather it should at least match the Jag’s 4-pot 247hp (though if fuel economy was a major concern I would have gone for the diesel).
Will post some pictures when I get the car! |

M440i all come with remote start I thought. Just ordered the M440i Gran Coupe and was told that it was standard. Enjoy the car. Greats specs!

It's not actually legal to leave a car idling unattended on a public road in the UK, so JLR obviously gives their owners the choice of following the law while BMW and most others presumably choose to play it safe and don't allow it full stop. From what I've read, BMW do include remote start In the US (and probably some other markets). But also not in Germany, again - if what I've read is correct - for legislative reasons.

Collection is tomorrow morning!
Taken a bit longer than initially anticipated due to the chip issue and dealer took longer than usual to find a replacement car for the manager whose car I’m buying. And dealer has been kind enough to put in a bit of extra fuel than normal for collection, so have some time to hunt down a petrol station with petrol.

Collected this morning at Sytner Leicester BMW. Quick and easy, excellent service at handover. Drive back down the M1 was fantastic. Lot of things to get used to, and it’s still the honeymoon, but (obviously) loving it so far.
Will look to write up some observations in due course, but first some photos for anyone interested.
