I'm sorry but that looks awful not a good look at all, the angles are awful and the reverse rev counter WTF? The warning lights scattered around the edges as well, I'm shocked at how bad it looks, truly shocked.

I kinda see the first iteration as a beta. The beauty is it's just software on a display, so they change easily change it down the road like Tesla does. I remember seeing some mockup screens for OTA updates for iDrive itself.

I actually don't mind the new design, I grew up playing video games like Need for Speed so it looks fine. I do have a problem with the cheap LCD panel. |

I'm pretty sure an led backlit lcd will last longer than a oled panel that will burn in especially bon an image as static as that. I'd rather have an lcd in a car until micro led comes out

I look at it this way, if you are going to introduce more info, options and displays in the middle of the panel, you have to lose the way conventional dials read. (You have to blot out part of the key dials). The symmetrical way BMW are setting out the display allow the speedo and tacho to be constantly displayed. To me, still wanting any digital panel primarily as a driver focused display, that is a good thing. |

Of all the designs of full digital displays I see coming to the market, I see BMW's as one of the best for driver clarity. Many are so messy and IMO, will give an information overload. I really believe the driver focused part, should have priority. |

Perhaps, but it's surrounded by an Audi automobile, Audi service, Audi quality(?), and Audi customer support. Been there as recently as 2016, done that, dumped it, never again.

The cpu that runs the virtual cockpit in current Audis is the Nvidia Tegra3.... which is roughly the same as most budget android phones (i'm ...an android dev) these days. I'm amazed its as smooth as it is, given its a chip that was launched in 2012. Most Android smartwatches run a cpu with similar level of processing power.

Instead of putting more info in the middle of the display, from an ergonomic point of view the HUDis the better place. Detailed information in the instrument cluster is not where your eyes should be whilst driving , a glance down for the speed and revs perhaps but nothing more than that.
This seems gimmicky to me and a case of keeping up with the Jones. Make the HUD standard as that is a far better place to be putting items like satnav directions as one example. |
