M340i break in

I recently just got a new m340i (lease) and was wondering if I need to break the car, and if so how should I?[IMG][/IMG]

Break the car? Bat or an angry partner would work XD.

No, I believe the break in period was 1200 miles but unsure how much of it helps compared to a real M. It's a lease so some might comment to just red line it from start but still do break in period, even for a lease.

Drive it like you stole it. Don’t worry about the break-in. These days if it’s required the car itself will limit you from doing any damage.

Either way, use your best judgement.

Congratulations. Good luck, enjoy and be safe. The break-in procedures are outlined in the manual.

Lol I meant break in, but I even asked the dealer and they said they do not need break ins anymore but I didn't really believe them, even with warranty I was just wondering what rpm I shouldn't go over.

I would trust engineers who put out the info shown above in turtleboy's post over CA's.

Hi, Jackodlum. Off topic but I just noticed that I've ordered virtually the exact same M340i spec as you (color, rims, shadowline, and calipers) great minds think alike as they say. I was wondering what your experience has been so far in how visible it shows dirt? It's something I never really factored in when making my selection. Mine is supposed to arrive mid to late June.

Take it easy for the first couple thousand, gradually open it up. At 17k miles now and burn 0 oil in between oil changes unlike a good majority of M340i's. But it's a lease so if you want screw it and have your fun from the first day.

I would avoid prolonged steady state revs on the freeway for the first 1k miles, vary by changing gear. Do 5-10 higher throttle (but not WOT or to redline) pulls then lift off to help seal the pistons. Gradually give it more revs up to about 1k miles. Then change the oil to flush the metals that come off during break in, and you are ready to rip full power. I ran my M2C in this way.

Always let the oil come up to temp before pushing it is the main thing, thrashing cold engines creates a lot of wear on the internals.

I'm amazed that anyone at the dealership would say that. Was it before you'd purchased the car, or after? Dealers' stories tend to change after you've put your name on that dotted line, being very agreeable before and more rigid after.
