I've seen a few post about this but I'm still a little unclear.

2021 BMW 330i with Technology Package:

If I'm in a restaurant or anywhere and someone tries to steal my car and alarm goes off, or if alarm goes off for any reason, do I get a message on my phone by text or from the BMW app?

In anyone could help answer or point me in the right direction I would appreciate it.

Why not trigger your alarm and see what happens? There’s been no text notification whatsoever when my alarm went off the first and last time. Could be different in other markets just not the States.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t not warn you. I wish it did though. Mercedes’ app goes even further with recording photos or a video (can’t remember which) if your vehicle is bumped while parked.

OK.

It did go off one time when I first got the vehicle but I turned it off pretty fast. Loudest alarm I've ever heard. But I don't think I had the app set up yet.

I may have to drive out in the country and trigger it to see what happens. Don't want to disturb all my neighbors with that loud thing again.

I was just wondering if I'm failing to set it up or something.

Umm, you didn’t fail to set anything up. It doesn’t do anything on the My BMW app when the car alarm goes off…

Nope. The alarm in my 330i has been triggered quite a few times and nothing ever popped up on my phone saying the alarm was on.

I don't feel so bad anymore that it was not offered as an option on G20 LCI models. I would be pissed off if I had it and didn't notify me on MyBMW app if it went off.

This is another reason I am getting the newly released BlackVue DR970x dashcam. It will be connected to a 4G dongle (in my glovebox), so I can get instant notifications if any impact or breakins, and also view footage immediately.

PS. I bypassed BMW's ACE 3.0 once I confirmed that you can't pull footage unless you are in the car.

BMW gave me the impression that they have no interest in adding this feature. It amazes me. Why on earth would you not provide the *option* of being notified of such an important event even if it's not by default? Mind-boggling. Yet, they refuse to budge.

I agree that it should not only notify the owner but begin recording whatever it can via the onboard cameras.

It is a shame that it doesn’t send us notifications, or even record video using the external cameras when the alarm goes off.

We know the tech exists, and it’s even crazier that it’s available in the new X1. When the alarm goes off, the interior camera starts to record and you get a notification of it on the app.

This would lead one to believe surely BMW will eventually add this functionality to the G20.

You can´t compare the X1 that is based on a different platform to the G20 with a platform form 2020.
The cameras in the G20 are connected to the TRSVC control unit and this ECU has an enormous power consumption.
The car can´t record while parked because it would drain the battery in a few days without driving.
Even the new platform doesn´t record all the time.
When the alarm goes off, the alarm will wakeup the camera module and then it will start to record.

The other thing is where i agree.
BMW could easily send us a notification when the alarm goes off.
The alarm could wakeup the headunit and use the TCB to send a package to the BMW backend.

I don´t know why BMW hasn´t added this feature.
But i´m sure the OS7 drivers will never get an update like this.
And even OS8 is already outdated with OS9 around the corner.

I get all of that and never advocated for having the cameras record all the time; I was saying the tech exists to have push notifications go off when the alarm goes off.

Wouldn't it be nice if the MyBMW app provided a notification on your phone if car's alarm goes off -- just like my Ring door bell does? And if you don't want it, you can toggle it off

Why not send BMW that thought through the feedback on MyBMW app -- can't hurt

I like that Mercedes just put out a video on what we’re wishing BMW would do.

For future cars, yes.
For the G20, no.

OS7 is already old and OS8 is on the way to be replaced by OS9.
SP18 cars wont receive any major updates and even SP21 isn´t the newst platform with SP25 coming soon.

You really think something as easy as a push notification to one’s MyBMW app couldn’t be added to all iDrive 7/8 cars? I get the the feature of being able to take pictures when it goes off…sort of…but this seems like something they could add to ConnectedDrive.

Hell, my 2015 Hyundai Genesis had the feature 8 years ago with both the Hyundai BlueLink app and the Genesis Connected Services app. Anytime the alarm went off, you get a push notification saying where the car is going off at, and when it started.

The tech exists. It’s only a matter of BMW wanting to push out a value add. Heck, it’s only recently that Trip Statistics were added to the app, so 🙏🤷‍♂️

In Germany we wont get multi user support for the MyBMW app in OS7.
That´s already implemented for the US in OS7/8 but in europe only for OS8.
Why should they add a feature like this that´s not implemented at all while other features aren´t coming to certain cars because of upselling reasons.

It´s not about happy customer, it´s about news cars being sold...
BMW is a profit organization.

Don´t get me wrong, i would totally love to have this feature.
I´m already pissed how many things are possible in our cars but we need to use Bimmercode and E-Sys to use them.

To be fair, up sells like Traffic Camera info were not available when iDrive 7 came out, yet eventually became an app and subscribeable service. There’s precedence there for BMW to add this as another paid service that then downloads to your car once subscribed to.
